Must be nice to be always right. I don’t even care anymore.
I expect him to pull me closer. To finally take me.
My body is practically begging for him. But he does the opposite of what I expect.
Lev wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and slides off the bed.
“You taste like heaven, printsessa,” he mutters, eyes locked on me. “But you’re not ready for my cock yet.”
I want to ask why, but all I can do is stare, stunned.
My brain hasn’t quite caught up yet. It doesn’t until he moves away and walks over to the chest of drawers. He opens the top drawer, grabs a pair of joggers, and pulls them on, then he heads back to me.
Is this him dismissing me again?
Or did he just remember he’s not supposed to want me?
Not in the ways a husband wants his wife.
He said he was worshiping me. He did, and for those few minutes, I felt like a goddess, not the replacement daughter my father created.
The intruding thought makes me reach for the sheets to cover myself.
On seeing that, Lev climbs back on the bed, cups my cheek with one hand, and crushes his lips to mine.
Through the confusion, I kiss him back.
When he pulls away again, his eyes have that unsettled look I’ve only ever seen a few times.
“I’ll see you later,” he husks.
“Where are you going?”
He slips an arm around my waist and trails his thumb lightly over the scar at the small of my back. “You need gentle right now, printsessa. I can’t give that to you when I feel like this.”
“How do you feel?”
“Enraged. Like I might burn the world for you if it could erase your past.”
Of all the things Lev has ever said to me, this shocks me the most.
He inches away, gets off the bed, and heads out the door.
It swings shut, leaving me alone with his words.
I stare at the wooden grooves in the door, my mind slowing down, my thoughts narrowing to this one realization.
Until today, my body was the only part of me Lev Karsavin held captive.
Now he’s captured something more.
Something far more dangerous.
