I put my phone back in my pocket and release a heavy sigh. As the sun brightens outside, I accept it’s time to move forward with today’s plan. I head back into the bedroom and find Allegra sitting up. She gives me a sweet smile, and I walk over to her and kiss her.
“I thought you’d left already for the day,” she whispers over my lips.
“No. You and I are going somewhere today, though.”
She inches away and gazes back at me, worry pinching her brows. “Where are we going?”
“We’re going to see your father.”
Instantly, her skin pales. “You and me?”
“Yeah. It’s time to face the truth with him.”
“The truth?”
“Yes. He can’t get away with what he did to you.”
“Lev, I don’t know if you should speak to him about that. My father has built everything on that lie. It could be dangerous. Dangerous for you.”
I chuckle lightly. “Worried about me, baby?”
“Of course, I’m worried about you.”
I kiss her again. “Sweetheart, don’t you think if your father could deal with me, I’d already be dealt with?”
“Yes.”
“Then try not to forget who I am. I command the biggest Bratva brotherhood on this hemisphere and I have allies who would eat him alive.”
She bites the inside of her lip. “I haven’t forgotten, and I know what you command. But that doesn’t make me worry any less. You’re not invincible, Lev, and my father may not be as powerful as you, but he’s evil. He’ll find a way to get what he wants.”
“I know. I know him better than you think.” I press my forehead to hers. “I guess I’m just trying to assure you.”
“We need to be careful, Lev.”
“We do.” I inch away and meet her worried eyes. “In any event, it’s time your father answers for what he did.”
“But—”
“No, printsessa, no more discussion. I’m your husband, the man who’s supposed to fight for you. So, let me fight.”
Slowly and hesitantly, she nods.
“Get dressed. We’ll leave in an hour.”
Chapter
Forty-Four
Lev
We walk into the garden of Corrado’s manor home to find him sitting on one of the wicker chairs with a young maid straddling his lap.
She’s kissing him and running her hands all over his leathery neck.
Allegra stiffens next to me, completely repulsed. I’m right there with her on the ick factor. The sight of her father and a girl young enough to be his daughter isn’t just vile, it’s deeply unsettling.
Especially given what Mirella has been through over the last few days.
