KADE
I’ve let them pair themselves up today. I can’t be bothered to play trainer, I’m too exhausted. Sometimes I feel like I’m in charge of a bunch of 12-year-olds. I’ve asked Emilia to teach the new recruits a few moves. She asked me in the office this morning if she could take over some of the training. I get the impression she wants a distraction so I have no qualms about giving her this. It takes away another responsibility off my plate, so who am I to argue.
I’m on the side wall observing the recruits. Some of them won’t make the cut, I can see that already. Some, far too arrogant for their own good and others too shy and timid.
“I only see two that might make good agents,” Cyrus announces next to me. “I only see one.” Cass adds and I sigh. We need recruits now more than ever. Crime rates are increasing in the city and the chief is riding my ass to get them down. Give me the money to get decent officers and I will.
“Jack, your turn.” Emilia gestures for Jack to join her on the mat. I don’t like him. His smirk, the way he looks her over not once, not twice, but three times. His dirty blonde hair is pushed back with a hairband of some sort. As if those reasons weren’t enough, he takes it one step further. “Are you going to be gentle with me, Staff?” he teases towards Emilia. He’s flirting with my little viper. Where the fuck did that come from? She’s not mine. Fuck.
Emilia does a good job at ignoring him, far better than me. I narrow my eyes at him, my arms are crossed in front of my chest and my back is leaning against the wall. I make sure my posture looks lethal. I could break his legs without even a thought. He needs to be careful.
Cyrus leans in slightly. “You look like you’re going to kill him, you need to ease up.” I blow out a sigh in the hope I can relax, but it doesn’t come.
Emilia leads Jack into the move and he brushes his hand along the skin that’s exposed between her leggings and her shirt. I want to kill him. The feral rage is bubbling beneath my skin. It’s hot and dangerous. I roll my shoulder and my neck, ready for anything at this point.
“You really do like her, don’t you?” Cass quizzes me. I dart him a warning glance and he backs off.
Emilia runs through the move again as Jack is useless. He’s too busy giving her fuck me eyes. Emilia flips him on his ass and leans over him, smiling “That’ll teach you for losing focus.” I grin at her, the pride I feel and the satisfaction that she doesn’t like his attention.
“Oh, Staff, you can flip me on my ass anytime you want.” Jack goes to put his arm over her shoulders and I lose all semblance of self-control.
I stalk over to my prey, ready to tear him apart. I grab Jack by the arm, put him in an arm lock and twist. He cries out in agony. I’m ready to break his arm, but Emilia casts me a look in warning not to do anything stupid and she’s right. I can’t exactly break his arm, but I could follow him home and kill him…nobody would know.
“If you dare touch or flirt with one of my agents like that again, you’ll have much worse than a sore arm the following day, do I make myself clear?” I spit out the command like his life depended on it, which it did.
“Yes, Sarge. Sorry Sarge.” He’s hurt, the pain showing in his contorted face. Good.
Emilia announces, “Class dismissed” before I could say anything and everyone exits swiftly.
“What was that about?” The way she stands there with her arms crossed and that frown on her face, her leggings so tight you can see her big curvy ass in all of its glory.
“He touched you. I didn’t like it. I dealt with it.” I shrug. I’m nothing but honest, I don’t like the guy.
“Why?” she presses.
“Why what?”
“Why don’t you like him touching me?” she presses again. She’s not going to leave this be, not for a second.
“Because little Viper, after I touched you a week ago, I don’t like the thought of anyone touching you, let alone seeing it with my own eyes. I want nothing more than to come over there right now and have my way with you. I want to taste you on my tongue, I want to know what you sound like when you come on my fingers, but above all, I want to hear you scream my name when you climax ,but I can’t do any of that.”
“Why not?” she breathes.
I stalk towards her, slowly, methodically, until I’m looking down at her. I brush my fingers across her jaw and move some hair that was loose behind her ear.
“Because you’re not telling me the truth about who you are, Viper. Tell me what’s going on… tell me.”
“I can’t,” she whimpers and sprints out of the hall so fast she’s a blur.
Why won’t she tell me? Have I not given her enough reason to trust me? Is someone hurting her? Blackmailing her? Is her father involved? Is Tom involved? So many questions and no answers. I walk back to my office, Cyrus and Cass already inside. God can’t I just get a minute of peace?
They both look very happy with themselves. Cass starts, “Jack pissed his pants, you made Jack piss his pants. He’s crying in the changing rooms.” Both Cyrus and Cass are laughing so hard, they’re barely inhaling air. Me on the other hand, I should feel bad, I should apologise for my behaviour.
“That’ll teach him to flirt with the future wife of his sergeant, huh?” Cyrus jokes. For fucks sake, again with the wife comments.
“What happened after we left?” Cass fishing for information.
“I asked her to tell me the truth and she said she couldn’t and ran out of the hall like her ass was on fire,” I exclaimed.
