“I need to stock up.”

He blinks at me in confusion. “Stock up on what?”

“For the trip.”

His expression goes blank.

“Trip?”

“Yes.”

He stares at me as if I have just told him I intend to drive us to the moon.

“What trip, Tristan?”

“I’m taking you to my cabin.”

His eyes narrow. “Your cabin.”

“Yes.”

“And why didn’t you tell me that we’re going to a freaking cabin while you were luring me out of my hotel with vague promises and emotional manipulation?”

“I did not lure you.”

“You called me a child.”

“And it worked.”

“That does not make it any less manipulative.” He turns fully towards me now, disbelief and irritation vying for space on his face. “How far away is this cabin?”

“Two hours.”

His mouth falls open.

“Two hours?”

“It’s not far.”

“It is literally two hours away.”

“It’s outside the city.”

“Tristan, outside the city could mean thirty minutes. Forty-five, if the traffic is bad. Two hours is a relocation.”

Despite myself, I almost smile.

Maksim notices.

His eyes narrow further. “Don’t smile. I’m serious.”

“So am I.”

“Are you taking me to a cabin in the middle of nowhere because you owe me an apology?”

“I’m taking you somewhere I really like to spend most of my time when I’m not in the city.”

“And because you think trapping me in the wilderness will stop me from leaving?”
