I should have been monitoring how much blood he took. Instead, my free hand moved to his shoulder. His muscles tightened beneath my palm.

Another pull of his mouth made my fingers slide upwards. They reached the base of one horn and curled around it.

Sten shuddered.

His eyes opened. The gold had almost disappeared beneath the black of his pupils.

“Do you want me to stop?”

Every sensible part of me said yes.

“No.”

His grip tightened around my wrist as his mouth returned to it. His tail slid higher, curling around my thigh and drawing me closer.

My breathing became unsteady. He could hear my heart. He could smell what this was doing to me.

The realisation should have embarrassed me. Instead, it made the heat between my legs worse.

Sten took one final mouthful before forcing himself away. His chest rose and fell rapidly. Colour and movement had returned to his fingers, and the swelling around his wing was already beginning to lessen.

His tongue passed over the bite marks. The wounds tingled beneath it, then closed until only two faint red dots remained. Magic.

I was breathless, my heart still beating fast. I wanted more. So much more. And yet, far too soon, rational thought was returning.

“Is the pain better?” I asked. My voice shook only a tiny bit.

“Yes.”

I should have examined his wing.

Instead, I watched him lick the last trace of my blood from one fang.

This was going to end badly.

Chapter 6

Sten

Robyn watched me lick the last trace of blood from my fang.

Her taste remained on my tongue, warm and rich. Power moved through my body with every beat of my heart. The stone had vanished from my hand, and when I moved my injured wing, pain no longer tore through the joint.

I had known the blood of a mate was supposed to strengthen a gharrgoil. The old stories had failed to mention what it would do to the rest of me.

Robyn’s scent filled my lungs. Her arousal was unmistakable now. So was mine.

Her fingers were still curled around the base of my horn. I could have closed the small distance between us without effort. Her lips were parted, her breathing quick. She wanted me.

I wanted her more.

“May I kiss you?”

Her gaze dropped to my mouth. For a moment, I thought she was going to say yes.

“Not yet.”

Every instinct urged me to persuade her. To pull her closer and show her how good it could feel.
