The room laughed, and I couldn’t help but join in. Tobias was just so effortlessly casual, relaxed as if nothing special was going on, despite the fact that this was the first time I was meeting his coworkers.
“All right, Summer. Here’s your prescription.” Alex produced a little bag with the drug information stapled to the front of it. “I’m assuming you already know how to take it and all that.”
I nodded. “Yes, thank you.”
“Well, I don’t have tons of time, but wanna join me for a walk next door?” Tobias grinned, tickling Milo as he held him close, and I practically swooned. Plus, it was nice to have a break from holding him.
“Sure.”
I followed Tobias to the door, and we walked to the building over. It was a small deli, and he ordered a sandwich for himself, and one for me to take home. I chuckled as I watched him navigate eating with Milo on his lap, the little guy grabbing at the bread. Eventually, he gave Milo a soft piece from the inside.
“You know I can take him back.” I smirked, raising my brows at Tobias.
“Nah, I like the challenge. So, what were you picking up?”
My stomach dropped a little, and I felt my cheeks heat again. “Oh, umm…my…heat suppressants.”
Tobias’s face paled before turning pink, which was actually adorable. “Oh! Right. That, umm, makes sense. You need to keep that up if…Yeah.”
Conversation almost died, but then Tobias shook himself and smiled. “Hey, how about I give you guys a ride home so you don’t have to walk and carry all this? I have a car seat ready to go…”
It was so nice of him, an out of the blue gesture, and I relaxed, remembering why I’d decided to go through with our arrangement.
With a smile, I nodded. “That sounds like a plan.”
And in no time, we were loaded into the car, Milo snoring gently as he fell asleep in the car seat.
Chapter 20
Marshall
“What’s on the agenda tonight?” a sweet voice asked from the doorway.
I’d been so absorbed in my work that I hadn’t even heard her approach. She stood in the doorway, her body half hidden by the frame. Her hair was in a loose braid, and she wore a large, oversized cardigan draped over her shoulders.
The nightdress she was wearing was short, but nowhere near as short as the last one.
I was kind of sad about that—but I wasn’t going to say that.
“Turns out some of my receipts are a mess, and one of my employees gave me this massive stack of invoices and receipts that I’m having to slowly put in date order,” I said, looking at the pile in front of me.
I’d honestly wanted to throttle Cole when he had pulled the stack of papers out of the desk.
“Oof,” Summer frowned. “That is a lot.”
I nodded, pressing my lips together, doing everything I could to keep from cursing out my team for giving me this mountain of misery.
“Yeah…” I finally said, looking at the table with disdain.
Summer smiled brightly, padding into the room. In one hand, she held the baby monitor. “Thankfully, simply putting everything in order is a pretty basic job. We can get it done in an hour,” she said cheerfully.
She wanted to help me?
“Ar-are you sure?” I stammered.
This omega was making me fall over my words. I was not the kind of alpha who stuttered. And yet here I was.
“Of course!” Her smile was wide and sincere as she took a seat at the table next to me. Her sweet tea scent was faint from the doorway, but as she sat down next to me, it was overwhelming, but not in a bad way. In the way that made me want to grab her and kiss her.
