Edie’s face lit up. “Of course I’ll watch him! Hattie is coming over today, so she’ll be over the moon. Go! Do some shopping, have a little time for yourself. We’re more than happy to take care of the little man!” she insisted, practically shoving me out the door.

I didn’t deserve her, or any of the mothers who’d been so eager to step up and help. But right now, I was going to take it. I needed to get to the store. I needed to buy a test.

Milo was fast asleep in the travel crib when I got back from the store and ripped open the box in the adjoining bathroom.

Thankfully, pregnancy tests were pretty self-explanatory. You peed on the stick, so I did what I had to do and then laid it on the counter while I washed my hands, trying not to think about the agonizing wait for results.

Two entire minutes. It felt like an eternity.

If it hadn’t been for the lawsuit, I’d have been excited about being pregnant, if a little terrified because it was new and fast. But I knew that, no matter what, Pack Winters would be there for me.

To distract myself, I went out to the bedroom and checked on Milo, who was still sleeping soundly in the crib, oblivious to everything going on. He looked so serene and innocent. He didn’t deserve to be thrust into the middle of all this. And those horrible people couldn’t have him. Hell, why did they even want him?

My temper started to get the better of me, and I forced myself to breathe.

He's a sweet little baby…My baby. And I might have another one? Oh god…

It was just so much. I was supposed to be pregnant and deal with a lawsuit? How was that going to work? I mean, I knew I had choices. I did. But I’d wanted to have kids with the guys. After that heat, the time they’d spent taking care of me, it just solidified what wonderful fathers they would be, and I did want to grow the family.

I just wanted to do it on my timeline.

I guess that’s out of the question now. They’ll have to know…eventually.

I wasn’t going to keep Pack Winters away from the B&B if they came. If I was pregnant, I just needed a few weeks to figure out the lawsuit without them, so those horrible people wouldn’t be able to make good on their threats. I couldn’t let the pack be dragged into my problems and lose their careers because of it.

I…loved them.

It was bonkers on paper, maybe, but I’d fallen utterly in love with the alphas who I’d been matched with. Of all the packs, I had found my perfect match.

Which is why I have to protect them.

After a few minutes, I walked back into the bathroom, grabbing the test and staring at the little window that would show the results.

Two lines.

Pregnant.

Chapter 49

Marshall

Our mate had decided to spend the evening with our mothers and even sleep at the B&B. Which made me feel…

Marshall, she can stay where she wants. You need to be—Ugh.

It wasn’t out of the norm for our pack to crash at the B&B now and again. They usually had spare rooms, and sometimes it worked logistically. Take, for instance, when some of us spent the evening with our mothers until late and just needed to crash.

Still, any one of us would have happily gone to collect her.

It had been bizarre, not having our mate or son with us for the night—the house felt empty without them.

Milo was already fast asleep, though, and Summer had insisted via text that it made sense to wait.

Even though it was logical, I didn’t have to like it. I wanted my mate beside me at all times. If it was up to me, I would never work again and just stick to her side like glue. The problem was, I didn’t want Summer to feel smothered, so I had to give her her space, no matter how painful it was.

Worse, though, was the way I could tell something was up. Summer used emojis, and even her texts had an energy about them. That was decidedly absent now, which could mean nothing, but…

“When can we go get our mate?” Tobias whined, flopping down on the couch across from Noah, who laughed at him.
