The appetizers arrived before he could make a remark she knew would infuriate her.

“Are you ready to order your entrées?” the waiter asked.

“We’ll take the filet flight with prime and Wagyu and loaded baked potatoes. Add a side of Brussels sprouts.”

Once the waiter left, Wizard spooned a fritter and a shrimp onto her plate. “You might as well eat,” he advised. “Text him and see how much longer he’ll be. I’ll disappear before he gets here. Maybe an emergency delayed him.”

Eyeing the tempting food, she took out her phone and texted her date. Before she could set it down, a notification made it vibrate.

She stared blankly at the response. He had blocked her.

“He’s not coming,” she said numbly. “He must have heard about the video. As a pediatrician, he probably doesn’t want to be seen with someone accused of supplying alcohol to minors.”

Wizard placed another shrimp on her plate. “His loss. The food here is fantastic.”

Taking her untouched fork, he speared a shrimp and raised it to her mouth. “Come on. Don’t let that fucker spoil dinner. If he’s lame enough to throw you away because of rumors, he isn’t the man for you, anyway.”

Opening her mouth, she slid the shrimp off the fork.

“Good, huh?”

His humor took some of the sting out of being dumped. She couldn’t blame her date for not wanting to be associated with her, but he could have texted to cancel instead of subjecting her to the humiliation of being stood up.

“Yes.” Taking the fork from Wizard, she began eating the rest of the food on her plate.

“I would never have left you hanging.”

Her lips twitched with the beginnings of a smile. “You’ve never stood up a woman?”

“I can’t lie about that,” he admitted with a wry smile. “I probably have, more times than I’d like to admit.” His eyes met hers with piercing intensity. “But I wouldn’t do that to a woman I intended to pursue a serious relationship with.”

Natalia considered his words. If her date had genuinely been interested in finding a woman for a serious relationship, as his profile claimed, would he have been so quick to believe rumors instead of discovering the truth for himself?

When the entrées arrived, she stared at the amount of food Wizard had ordered.

“We’ll never be able to eat all this.”

“Watch me.”

Laughing, she watched him divide the food evenly between their plates despite her protests.

“I’m never going to be able to finish all of this.”

Wizard added another spoonful of Brussels sprouts to her plate. “Whatever you don’t eat, I will.” Unperturbed, he began cutting his steak.

“You’ll eat my leftovers? Most people don’t like eating after someone else.”

He gave her a lascivious smile that curled her toes inside her heels. “Why should I be squeamish about eating your leftovers when I plan to have your pussy in my mouth later tonight?”

She nearly choked on the bite of steak she had just taken, but she managed to swallow it without requiring Wizard to perform the Heimlich maneuver.

“I’m not having sex with you tonight,” she rasped.

“Why not? Do you have something better planned?”

“I’m going home, and I’m going to be alone.”

“Sounds pretty damn boring to me.”
