Her stomach clenched with fear for her brother. “You would kill Rafael?”

“No. I merely plan to make him wish I would.”

CHAPTER 38

BLACKMAIL

Hearing the mechanical click of the door opening, Wizard didn’t stop eating the sandwich he had made for himself.

“How did you get into my apartment?”

Swallowing his bite, he stared nonchalantly at the woman who had frozen at the sight of him sitting in her kitchen. “I thought it was time we had a conversation.”

Taylor’s heels clicked across the expensive tile as she strode to the counter and slammed down her purse. “You could have called,” she snapped. “Instead, you broke into my apartment. What makes you think I won’t call the cops?”

Wizard shrugged. “Call them.”

Seeing that her threat hadn’t fazed him, Taylor did what she always did—arranged her face into a beguiling mask to conceal her true emotions. “I’m only joking.” Moving closer, she slid a caressing hand up his arm. “I was startled to see you here.”

Her appreciative gaze traveled over him. “You look amazing. I didn’t think you even knew Yves Saint Laurent was a designer, much less owned one of his suits. I wonder what other secrets you’ve been hiding.”

Forcing himself not to recoil from her touch, he let her continue to rub the material covering his arm. He thought it was fucking rich that she was mentioning his secrets when her entire life had been built on lies.

“Did you get all dressed up just to see me?” The tip of her tongue traced her bottom lip suggestively.

“I sure did.” Unable to tolerate her touch for another second, he slid from the counter stool with a mocking smile and carried his plate to the sink. “I wore this getup because I knew one of your neighbors would call the police if I showed up in my regular clothes. It’s crazy how many people turn a blind eye to breaking and entering when the man doing it is wearing a ten-thousand-dollar suit.”

“All you had to do was call,” she reminded him. “I would have been here to open the door for you.”

“I could have, but then I wouldn’t have been able to snoop around your apartment and check out your computer,” he told her without remorse.

Her face twisted into an ugly scowl before she managed to control it. “Did you find anything interesting?”

Satisfaction filled him at making Taylor drop her mask. He already knew the bitch was ugly on the inside. Her expression showed that her exterior could be just as ugly as the soul beneath it.

“Not really, but damn, you should splurge on a better vibrator. The one you have is crap.”

“I don’t need an expensive one.” Provocatively, she removed her suit jacket, revealing the silky top beneath. “I only use it for emergencies. I have no problem finding a real man to satisfy my needs.”

“I bet you don’t.” Letting his eyes drop to her low-cut top, he saw she had deliberately chosen one a size too small so the material would cling to her breasts. “You’ve always been able to sell the package without letting the buyer see exactly what they’re getting.”

His insults finally made her realize the allure she was throwing in his direction was missing its mark.

“Is there anything else you want to discuss besides my vibrator?”

“Next time you involve the club to get the custody arrangement you want, it won’t go well for you.”

“I will take advantage of any situation I can use to keep custody of my son.”

“Don’t act like Burn is trying to take him away from you. He’s asking for what’s fair—fifty-fifty custody, which is what the court ordered. You’re the one who moved to another state and suckered the court into granting him only a couple of weekends a month.”

“All he had to do was move. I wasn’t going to lose a job opportunity just because Burn thought staying close to The Last Riders was more important than being near his son.”

“Cut the bullshit. We both know that if Burn moved into the same apartment building, you’d find another excuse to keep his son away from him. You’re a vindictive bitch who can’t stand that Burn divorced your ass after you went chasing after Reaper and came crawling back with your tail tucked between your legs.”

Taylor’s complexion changed to an unattractive shade of puce. “All he has to do is move to Louisville and leave The Last Riders. Then he can have fifty-fifty custody.”

“This is all about getting Burn to leave The Last Riders.” Wizard sneered at her. “You’re using your son to get payback against the club. No one could ever accuse you of being mother of the year.”
