“Move.” Wizard gave Doom only a second’s warning before lifting his steel-toed boot and kicking the door open.
“Could you have done that any louder?” Doom shot him a withering look as they pushed past the broken door. “One of her neighbors will call the cops.”
“Let them. We’ll be gone before they get here.”
Barreling into the apartment, they found Lucia in the living room with her cell phone in hand.
Wizard didn’t have to give an order. Doom strode across the short distance and snatched the phone from her hand. He was hoisting her over his shoulder when Jesus and Puck came in through the balcony door.
“Wouldn’t it have been simpler to have me be the one to knock?” Jesus asked as he tore off a strip of tape and used it to silence Lucia’s screams.
“I wanted to give her time to call whoever she’s working for.” Wizard took the cell phone from Doom as he walked past, carrying Lucia out of the apartment. He placed it in his vest pocket. “Let’s book it before the cops get here.”
No one tried to stop them, despite Wizard being able to see several pairs of eyes peering through the curtains.
Doom shoved Lucia into the back of the dark SUV and climbed in after her. Wizard got in beside them while Jesus and Puck rushed to the front seats.
“Drive slowly,” Wizard instructed Jesus, who was behind the wheel.
Doom dropped Lucia from his shoulder and placed her on the seat between them.
“I want to give her neighbors time to see the license plate.”
Lucia tried to throw herself toward the door as the SUV began moving. Expecting the move, Wizard gave her a sharp jab to the ribs.
“I don’t enjoy hurting women, but I’m going to make an exception for you. You sent young girls into a bar without giving a fuck what could happen to them.”
Furious eyes glared at him, saying what her taped mouth couldn’t.
For a woman who had been abducted by four men, Lucia didn’t appear afraid. Wizard and Doom exchanged wary looks over her head. She was acting far too calm. Wizard could tell Doom had reached the same conclusion.
His skin crawled at Lucia’s cold-blooded composure. Taking out his cell phone, he pressed the button reserved for emergencies.
Alerts sounded on every Last Rider’s phone, including those inside the SUV.
Doom took his phone out when the alert sounded, as did Puck and Jesus.
“Change of plans, Jesus. Take us to Oasis’.” Wizard rolled down the window to escape Lucia’s cloying perfume. “Doom, text Burn. Tell him to get the brothers ready.”
Feeling Lucia stiffen upon hearing she wasn’t being taken to The Last Riders’ clubhouse as she had expected, Wizard turned toward her and sized her up. He castigated himself for allowing Natalia’s concern for Lucia to make him lower his guard. The bitch had played them like a fucking fiddle.
Other than the slight stiffening of her body, she was still acting calm. Too fucking calm.
“Fuck me,” he snarled. Unlocking his cell phone, he called Natalia.
“What’s wrong?” Jesus asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
Wizard didn’t answer as he waited for Natalia to pick up. Each unanswered ring twisted his gut tighter. On the fifth ring, a man answered.
“I was wondering when you would call.”
Wizard’s jaw tightened as he recognized Marco’s voice.
“What do you want?” Wizard asked, putting the call on speaker so the other brothers could hear.
“You don’t have anything I want.”
Marco’s reply had Lucia trying to snatch the phone from Wizard’s hand. Doom caught her wrists and pulled her back, circling an arm around her neck to prevent any further movement.
