“No.”
“Me, neither.”
One woman did come to mind, but the length of her hair and her height were wrong.
Tired, Wizard slid Cornbread’s cell phone toward Doom. “See what Reaper can find out from his phone. Maybe he can track her phone from the text messages.”
“All right.” Doom placed the cell phone in his jacket. “What do you want me to do with Cornbread?”
Cornbread looked at him fearfully at Doom’s question.
“Order him an Uber.”
Relief filled Cornbread’s face, but it was short-lived.
“In the morning, I want your ass back here,” he ordered Cornbread. “I want the title to your bike sitting on my desk by twelve. If not, what I did to you tonight is going to look like a spanking.”
“I’m not going to sign my bike over to you …” He bravely used the edge of the desk to pull himself to his feet.
“Doom, did this piece of shit sign the application to become a Last Rider?”
“He sure did.” Doom’s lips twisted in a humorless smile.
“What does that have to do …?” Cornbread’s head swung back and forth between him and Doom.
“Next time, read the fine print,” Wizard advised. “What you signed is more of a contract than an application. If you decide not to pursue becoming a Last Rider, you forfeit your motorcycle.”
“Then I won’t quit. I’m not losing my bike.”
Both he and Doom looked at Cornbread in disgust.
“You sneaked three girls into the club. You lost the right to become a Last Rider. None of the brothers would vote you in to take the final test, which you wouldn’t pass anyway. For all those reasons, you forfeit your motorcycle. Like I said”—Wizard tapped his desk—“I want the title by twelve.”
Cornbread’s lips trembled as if he were about to start crying again. “I won’t have to give you shit. I’m going to report you for kidnapping …”
“Go ahead.” He shrugged. “I’ll show them the text messages between you and Stella organizing how to let the girls into the club that’s twenty-one and over.”
“I never talked to them. You have my phone. Stella was the one who talked to them. I just let them inside.”
“It doesn’t matter who set it up. You were the one who made it possible. Putting that shit aside, do you have any witnesses that you were kidnapped? All the brothers will swear you came willingly.”
“How are you going to explain my bruises?”
“You got drunk and fell in the parking lot. Doom generously paid for your ride home so you wouldn’t get hurt driving drunk. The Last Riders are all about safety when it comes to their members.”
Tired of Cornbread’s bullshit, he opened his desk drawer and took out another blackjack, this one heavier. Balancing it on his fingertips, Wizard silently dared him to open his mouth again.
Cornbread practically ran out of the room.
Doom turned to look at Wizard. “That’s it? You’re just going to let him go?”
“Yeah.” His smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Doom appeared stunned. “Why?”
“Brother,” he sighed, “we’ve all been fools in love.”
