‘It’s fine. It’s really no big deal.’
‘But you like her. You like Valeska.’
‘No. Not like that.’
‘You do.’
‘I don’t.’
‘You looked so… On your date. Sparks everywhere.’
‘No spark. Not with her.’
‘Not with her?’
And then, the kiss. Listening to it again, Sienna was amazed she’d thought she could lie her way through it the first time. It was undeniable.
Zoe cut the playback, all but clapping her hands together in glee as she readied herself for the next attack.
‘All right. So, obviously, we’ll get to the ending of that. But firstly, there’s been a lot of debate about this… What was actually happening here? Why did Robin say, “Well, well.’’
Sienna had tried to protect Valeska and Claire, but now, well, it was time to chuck them right under the oncoming bus.
‘We came out and saw Valeska and Claire at the bar, erm, kissing,’ Sienna told her.
Karen immediately chimed in. ‘Truth index: ninety-eight point three percent.’
Zoe blinked. ‘What?’
Robin jumped in. ‘It’s true. We didn’t like to make a fuss, but I guess they hit it off.’
Zoe shook her head. ‘They did? And they’d only just met?’
Sienna laughed. ‘Yeah, I’m sure Robin would say that was just their natural spark taking over.’
Robin chuckled. ‘She’s not wrong.’
Zoe took a moment to recalibrate. ‘Right. Okay. Well. So, what we heard right after was Sienna consoling Robin?’
‘That’s right,’ Sienna replied.
‘Ninety-four point eight percent confidence,’ Karen said dryly.
For the craziest moment, Sienna thought that was it. That she was going to be let off the hook.
Zoe leaned in. ‘Do you know what I’m going to ask now?’
‘Just say what you want to say, Zoe,’ Sienna said quietly.
Zoe’s bum almost left her seat as she leaned further into Sienna. ‘What was that noise at the end, Sienna?’
This was it. There was no getting around it. Truth time.
Sienna groaned. ‘Alright. You’ve got me. We kissed.’
Karen cleared her throat. ‘Truth index: ninety-nine point eight percent confidence.’
Beside her, Robin dropped her head and let out a long, agonised groan.
