“Nigga, this ain’t no fucking movie. Hold the gun straight up. All that sideways gun-holding is lame as fuck. I’ma pro, and I still hold my shit straight,” the nigga with glasses said.

“Brayden. Leave him alone. Let him hold it whichever feels comfortable to him.”

“Yeah, Deuce. Chill, nigga.”

The woman smacked the younger one on the back of his neck. “Nico, watch your mouth.”

“Girl. Nigga ain’t no curse word,” the guy named Deuce said.

He flinched before the woman could even say anything.

“You heard your sister, nigga. Watch your mouth.”

They kept arguing, so I sent one of my staff members over to help.

When I made it back to the lobby, Andrew’s newest assistant was sitting at the front desk. She straightened up, fixed her hair, then turned to greet me. She’d been working here for some time. She was around my age but trying to come across as younger. She was pretty, with a nice body, but she tried entirely too hard to get people’s attention.

“Oh! Hey, Chance! I didn’t know you were coming on site today.” She flirted.

“What’s up, Kendra?” I said flatly.

“That’s all I get.” She batted her eyes. “You haven’t been around lately.”

I was trying to keep shit professional, but she was pushing her luck.

“Yeah. Well, I’ve been busy. Can you pull all the invoices from today for me and email them over to me?” I asked, trying to give her ass a hint that this was her job, her livelihood, and that she needed to focus on the task at hand.

“Sure thing… or I could just text it. What’s your cell?”

“Kendra, please do as I ask and send the files to my work email.”

She stuttered, “Oh… Oh… Of course. I was just trying to help.”

“Understood.” That was the only response I gave her before I walked to Andrew’s office to check in with him. It looked like he had everything under control, but I just wanted to make sure.

After confirming what I already knew, Andrew and I walked back to the lobby, chopping it up before Kendra had to shoot her shot again.

“Oh, Chance. I meant to tell you that a few of us were going to happy hour tonight. You should come.” She licked her lips sexily.

“Nah, I’m good.”

“Ain’t nobody tell me about happy hour,” Andrew said.

“Well, that’s because you don’t come out with us. You’re always acting so secretive.” She paused and corrected herself. “I mean, we didn’t think the boss would want to hang out with us.”

“Well,” I mimicked her, “why did you invite me?” I asked, calling her out on her bullshit.

“Because you look like you could use a good time. We barely see you, and a few people feel bad that we’ve never seen you with a girl. We want to make sure that Mr. Legend is well taken care of.”

Andrew whispered, “What the fuck?” I was just in shock.

“Katrina, I don’t think Mrs. Legend would like how involved you are in my business.”

“It’s Kendra.” She rolled her eyes. “I didn’t know. I thought…”

“That’s your problem. You thought. When you should be thinking about work and not me and my woman.”

I turned to dap up Andrew. “Fire her.” He nodded, and I left.
