Sage: Who on the way? This bitch ghosted us, and now she thinks we should just pull up cuz she asked?
Sis: Sage, please
Sage: IDC that’s your sister, Jamie. I’ve been worried about her. AND you act like you ain’t know where she was, but all of a sudden you ms. save a hoe.
Sage: i’M on ThE wAy HeAd AsS.
Sis: STFU and be ready when I get there
Sage: Y’all make me sick
Sis: 15 mins
I rolled my eyes despite myself because although I understood Sage’s frustration, I couldn’t care less right now. Plus, I was proud that my sister did as requested and didn’t tell Sage where I was. I’d have to kiss her ass a bit or buy her a vape pen. She’d forgive me for a vape pen for sure.
Forty-five minutes later, I heard somebody knocking on my door like the fucking police, but I knew who it was. I groaned softly, because I knew there was going to be a lot of arguing and name-calling.
“Coming!” I yelled. I unwrapped myself from the burrito I created out of my comforter.
“Open this damn door!” Sage called out from the other side of the door. I unlocked it, and as soon as the door swung open, she pushed past me.
“Move, bitch,” she demanded. She sounded like that Marlon Wayans skit.
She was already being so fucking extra, which was normally cool because I knew her heart. But right now I didn’t feel like the bullshit.
“Excuse you,” I shot back at her rude ass.
“No, excuse you,” Sage doubled back.
Jamie was right behind her, carrying two bags. Both of them paused to look at me, and I noticed Sage’s attitude soften first.
“Damn, Justice,” she said softly, but it looked like she was low-key judging me.
I frowned. “What, Bitch?” I mean mugged her.
“You look sick,” she said gently.
“Duh, hoe! I told y'all I was sick,” I responded as I walked back to my bed. My energy was barely hanging on, and the little I had was hanging by a thread.
“I thought you meant emotionally sick,” Jamie responded.
“How long have you been sick, girl?” Sage asked.
“A few days,” I admitted.
“And you didn’t think to call anyone?” she questioned, sarcastically.
I tilted my head, already regretting calling them. “I called y’all, didn’t I?” I snapped.
“Yeah, today. Not a few days ago,” Jamie added. She was putting on her professional voice. She thought code-switching was gon’ save her from getting cursed out.
“Can we please not do this right now?” I asked, my voice low as I lay back down in bed. I felt a little overwhelmed and nauseous.
Sage folded her arms and looked at me with concern, but she didn’t push further. That wasn’t her style. Instead, she decided to talk shit.
“I was just worried about your bean pie head having an ass,” she joked. “But fine. I’ll drop it since you look like shit.”
“Thanks a lot,” I deadpanned. “Seriously, I know I fucked up and was acting like a selfish brat. And I’m sorry, for real. Everything was just too much, and I had to create distance between myself and the world… or else I was going to do something I couldn’t take back.” I spoke from the heart.
