“Chance, please. We know y’all are endgame; relax,” Chyanne said, making me giggle.
“Anyway… Azul is the artist. Are you familiar with him?”
“Yes! He’s a genius with how he spits. I love his freestyles,” I said excitedly.
“Aight now, y’all keep throwing out that L-word. Bring it back in.”
This time we all ignored him. Lyric played the song and gave me the lyrics she wanted me to sing. The song was straight fire. I could not believe she wanted me on this track. I was trying my damnest not to fangirl.
When I finished, Lyric didn’t say anything for a few seconds, just quietly gathering her thoughts. Then she pressed the talk button with a small smile and said, “That’s it. You did that shit in one take. Color me impressed.”
I couldn’t help but smile back because I knew I’d just achieved something special. I left the booth feeling light as if I was floating on air.
Throughout the next hour, Lyric patiently played everything back, made gentle adjustments to the vocals, layered harmonies effortlessly, and shared her thoughts on songwriting. She encouraged me to keep writing, to stay true to my voice, and mentioned how there’s something genuine and raw in my singing that many spend years trying to create. When she finally left, she promised we’d chat again soon. Chyanne and the others left with her, leaving Chance and me alone.
I couldn’t stop smiling. I swung around in my chair, feeling pure joy and inspiration.
“Chance!” I screamed his name in so much excitement.
He smiled, pride shining in his eyes. “Wassup, Trouble?”
“Did you hear her?” I nodded, feeling overly excited.
“I was sitting right here, Baby,” he stated softly.
“She said I can sang, not sing,” I added proudly.
“I told you that, too,” he said with a grin.
“She said she wants me to come back,” I shared happily.
“I heard her,” he said knowingly.
“And Azul!” I stood up, walked toward Chance, and took a seat on his lap.
“I heard that too,” he chuckled. He wrapped his hands around my waist.
I threw my arms around him and hugged him tightly. “I can’t believe you did this,” I said gratefully. “For me.”
“Why not?” he replied quickly. “I told you that I was going to earn my keep, and I meant that.”
“Thank you,” I said softly.
“You don’t have to thank me. I love you, Trouble,” he whispered, sealing it with a kiss.
I blushed. “I love you so much. You’re so good to me.”
Rather than responding, he left me waiting and positioned me in front of him. Then, he went to the door, locked it, took my hand, and guided us back to the sofa.
“Well, let me show you how good and deep I’m trynna’ be in you.”
I wanted to protest; we could wait until we were home, but the way he had my pulse racing, I would give him anything he wanted. I think it’s safe to say we both threw in our white flags in surrender.
“Get on all fours for me, baby.”
I repositioned myself as he instructed and arched my back. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw him admiring my curves. He then lifted his hand and slapped my ass, creating a ripple. Afterwards, he placed his hand on my ass, gently caressing it to ease the sting.
