As soon as he said that shit, I busted out laughing.

“What the fuck is so funny, bruh?” he asked, looking at me.

“Nothing, bruh.” I shook my head, still laughing.

“Nah, nigga. You laughing, so let me in on the joke. What the fuck is funny?”

“You really believe her when she told you that shit?”

“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?”

I looked at this nigga like he had lost his damn mind. Kendric had been dealing with females for years, and somehow he’d let Lha’Kayla pull one of the oldest tricks in the book on his ass.

“Bruh, that’s one of the oldest fucking lines in the book.”

“What you mean?”

“Nigga, you can’t be that fucking stupid.”

“Man, what the fuck are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about the fact that she told yo’ ass she had a girlfriend because she didn’t want to give you her number.”

He sat there looking at me for a second.

“So, you mean to tell me she ain’t got no girlfriend?”

“Bruh, I don’t know who that girl dealing with, but I wouldn’t have believed that shit without asking a few more questions.”

“Man, fuck!” he shouted, running his hand over his face.

I busted out laughing again. “Yeah, bruh. She played yo’ ass.”

“See, man, this is why I told you to hook me up with her in the first place.”

“And that’s why I told you I wasn’t doing that shit.” I shook my head. “If you wanna talk to Lha’Kayla, you gone have to do that shit on your own.”

“Bruh, all you gotta do is put in a good word for me.”

“Nah, nigga. You grown. Figure it out.”

He sucked his teeth, and I laughed because I already knew he wasn’t about to let that shit go.

The way I saw it, Kendric was used to females giving him whatever he wanted without having to do too much. Lha’Kayla clearly wasn’t going for that shit, and I wasn’t about to get in the middle of it.

Besides, things between me and Kaylen were finally starting to move in a better direction. We’d actually been getting along, and after last night, I wasn’t trying to do anything that might fuck that up. I knew how Kendric could be when it came to females, and the last thing I needed was for him to get involved with Kaylen’s sister, do some bullshit, and have both of them mad at me.

If he wanted her that bad, he was going to have to put in the work himself.

As Kendric and I continued laughing and talking shit, another knock came at my office door. I wasn’t expecting nobody else, so I had no idea who the hell it was.

“Come in,” I called out.

The door opened, and Marlin walked in with an envelope in his hand. I already knew he was coming with something about David, and I was hoping like hell it was some information I could actually use this time. I was tired of hearing the same shit about the black SUV and David's driver. I needed some real answers.

“Yo, boss man. I ain't mean to interrupt y'all,” he said, walking toward my desk.

“You good. What you got for me? And please tell me it's something worth hearing.”
