My eyes went straight to Shakaylen. She caught me looking at her and slowly lowered her fork.

“He got a name?”

“Not that I know of.”

“You sure?”

“Nah, I ain't sure about shit yet. That's why I'm still looking.”

That was the answer I wanted. I didn't need this nigga feeding me assumptions just to make it sound like he knew more than he did.

“Aight. Keep it that way. Facts only.”

“Got you.”

I rubbed my hand over my beard, thinking about what Shakaylen had told me earlier.

“One more thing.”

“What's up?”

“Keep your eyes open for a black SUV. Dark tint.”

“What kind?”

“Don't know yet.”

“Plate?”

“Don't have that either.”

He went quiet for a second. “That ain't giving me much to work with, Boss Man.”

“No shit. That's all I got right now. Don't go looking for the truck specifically. Just pay attention while you're watching David. If you see one around him or any of the niggas he's dealing with, get the plate and let me know.”

“Aight. I can do that.”

“And don't approach nobody.”

“I know.”

“I'm saying it again because you young niggas get excited when you think you onto something. I need you to do your job, not get yourself caught up in some bullshit.”

He laughed. “Man, I got it.”

“Make sure you do. Call me when you got something solid.”

I ended the call and set my phone back on the counter. When I turned around, Shakaylen was staring directly at me.

“What?”

Her eyebrows pulled together. “He was talking about me, wasn't he?”

I didn't answer right away.

“Cassian.”

“Yeah.”
