He’s good. Wife works in the building.
“Aight, you good.”
I gave the man a nod before turning around and heading back toward the truck where Akira was waiting.
“Is everything alright?” she asked as I walked up.
“Yeah, everything cool.”
“Good.” A smile spread across her face. “So, what are you about to do after this?”
“I gotta go check on another client.”
That was a damn lie, but she didn’t need to know that. I already knew where this conversation was headed, and I wasn’t trying to go there with her.
One thing I didn’t do was mix business with pleasure. I came across some bad ass women doing what I did, but no matter how good they looked or how hard they flirted, I kept that shit professional.
Right as Akira opened her mouth to say something else, my phone started vibrating in my pocket.
I was saved by the fucking bell. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was Kendric.
I answered and put the phone to my ear. “What?”
“Bruh….”
My brow lifted at the way he said it.
“What the fuck going on?”
“Shorty got a fucking mouth on her.”
I closed my eyes and shook my head. This nigga had me thinking something serious had happened.
“Kendric, I already know that. Something happened?”
“Nah. I’m just letting you know before I tell you the rest.”
I straightened up. “Nigga, what the fuck she do?”
“I’ll tell you when you get back to the house.”
I sucked my teeth. This nigga had really called me just to leave my ass hanging.
“Aight, bruh.”
I ended the call and slid my phone back into my pocket. Whatever the hell shorty had done, I’d deal with it when I got back to the house.
For now, I had business to handle.
Isat on the couch across from Cassian’s friend and stared at him. I still couldn’t believe this man had really called somebody over here to watch me like I was some little ass fucking kid.
I was a grown ass woman. Twenty-five years old at that. I didn’t need nobody babysitting me.
“Excuse me,” I called out.
The TV was on, but he wasn’t paying attention to it. His head was down and whatever he was looking at on his phone seemed to have all his attention.
“Yeah, what’s up, ma?” he asked, finally looking over at me.
