I damn sure hadn’t planned on going to an auction tonight and becoming Captain Save-A-Bitch, but I wasn’t about to sit there and watch shorty end up in some shit she didn’t need to be in either. Especially not with that old-ass nigga.

I took a sip of my drink, grabbed the remote from beside me, and started flipping through the channels. I hadn’t made it through many before my phone started ringing.

I glanced down at the caller ID. It was Kendric. I already knew this nigga was probably calling to see if I had gotten up with my pops.

I picked up the phone and slid the button over. “Yeah, man, what’s good?”

“Aye, bruh, whatchu doing right now?”

“I ain’t doing shit.” I took another sip of my drink.

“Bet. I was calling to see if you ever checked up on your pops and found out what he wanted.”

“Yeah, I checked on his ass.” I sucked my teeth.

“Oh, Lord.” Kendric chuckled. “Was it that bad?”

“Bruh, you don’t even know the half.”

“Damn. What happened?”

“This nigga called me down to the warehouse, and when I got there, he was having one of them damn auctions.”

Kendric sucked his teeth. “Man, what is up with yo’ old man and them fucking auctions?”

“I don’t know, bruh. He been doing that shit since I was a jit. I never fucked with it.”

“Hell, me either.”

“Nah, but they had this one shorty there. Apparently, her pops owed my pops some kind of debt, and the price for him getting out was handing over his first-born daughter.”

“What the fuck?”

“Same shit I said.” I shook my head. “Ain’t no fucking way I’m handing my daughter over to some nigga so he can throw her ass to the wolves.”

“Hell nah. Me and mine would’ve been on the first thing smoking up out that bitch.”

“Who the fuck you telling?” I took another sip before leaning back into the couch. “But I went ahead and got her because you remember that old nigga David?”

“Yeah. That old ass perverted motherfucker?”

“His ass.”

“What about him?”

“He was the one bidding on her.”

“Oh shit.” Kendric was quiet for a second. “We already know what that nigga was gone do.”

“Exactly.”

And that was the main reason I had stepped in. I could’ve minded my fucking business, but knowing the type of shit David was into, I wasn’t about to sit there and watch shorty leave with him.

“But enough of that,” Kendric said. “Is she bad?”

A smile pulled at my mouth before I could stop it.

“Yeah. She thick as shit.”
