I went back into the bedroom, folded my dress and the rest of my clothes, then placed them neatly on the bed. That’s when I thought about Lha’Kayla.
I needed to call my sister. She probably didn’t even know what the hell had happened to me.
The only problem was, I didn’t have my phone anymore. That damn woman at the warehouse had taken my shit, and I had no clue what she’d done with it.
I headed downstairs, hoping that he had a phone I could use. When I reached the bottom, I spotted him sitting on the couch with a glass in one hand and his attention on whatever was playing on TV.
“Hey.”
He turned his head and looked at me.
“Yeah.”
I stared at him for a second. I didn’t know what the hell it was with this man and the word yeah, but I was starting to think it was his favorite damn word.
“Can I use your phone?”
“Why you need my phone?” His brows pulled together.
“Because they took my damn phone at the warehouse.”
He took another sip from his glass. “I got it.”
I stared at him. “You got my phone?”
“Yeah.”
“Then why the fuck you ain’t give it to me?”
“You ain’t ask.”
I blinked at him. I could already tell this motherfucker was going to work my last nerve with his sarcastic ass.
“But who you ’bout to call?” he asked, setting his glass down before getting up from the couch.
“My nigga,” I threw back, knowing damn well that wasn’t who I was about to call.
I didn’t even have a man. The last nigga I dealt with fucked that up because his ass wanted to have his cake and eat it too. Not only that, he acted like he was ashamed to be seen with me half the time because I wasn’t some skinny-ass female.
Which never made sense to me.
My ass was thick when he met me, so what the fuck did he think was going to happen? I was going to wake up one morning a hundred pounds lighter?
“Oh, well, you not getting your phone back then.”
My mouth dropped open as he turned around and headed back toward the couch.
I sucked my teeth. “Man, stop playing and give me my phone. Please.”
“Nah.” He picked his glass back up. “I’m not giving you shit if you ’bout to be calling another fucking nigga while you laid up under my roof.”
“Well, shit, let me go home then.”
“Nah. Can’t do that, ma.” He shook his head, a slight smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth. “Remember I bought you?”
I rolled my eyes so hard they damn near hurt.
This man was about to make me snap on his ass, and I was trying my hardest to keep my cool. Not because I was scared of him, but because I had enough sense to know I couldn’t fight this big-ass motherfucker and win.
