I looked at him. “Okay, but what the fuck am I supposed to do now? I gotta go back to work tomorrow.”

“And you can go to work, ma. I ain't telling you to quit your job.”

“Well, I would hope not.”

“What I'm telling you is don't let Courtney know you found out about him and David. Not yet.”

I shook my head. “You asking for a whole lot, because I don't know how the hell I'm supposed to look at that nigga tomorrow and act normal.”

“I'm not asking you to be his friend. Just don't confront him about it. Marlin's still looking into his ass, and I don't need him running back to David before we know everything.”

I sat there for a minute, thinking about what he was saying. As much as I wanted to go off on Courtney, I understood why Cassian didn't want me saying anything.

“I'm so fucking tired of this shit,” I mumbled.

“I know, ma.”

“No, seriously. First, my daddy pulls that bullshit with the auction, then I got some man I don't even know trying to get his hands on me, and now I can't even go to work without somebody watching what I'm doing. Like, what the fuck?”

Cassian leaned back and let me talk.

“I ain't did shit to nobody. All I wanna do is work, save my money, and get my business started. That's it. I don't understand why all this other bullshit gotta come with it.”

“It shouldn't. And I'm working on finding out what David wants with you.”

“Well, I wish you'd hurry up, because I'm tired of hearing about that man.”

“Shit, me too.”

I looked over at him. “So, Banks knows about Courtney?”

“Yeah. I talked to him earlier. He's keeping an eye on things.”

“That explains why he was acting so damn strange when he picked me up.”

“What he do?”

“He was standing outside the car looking around the parking lot like he was searching for somebody. Then he got in the car and barely said two words to me.”

“That's because I told him to pay closer attention to what's going on around you.”

“Well, he could've told me something.”

“I told him I'd talk to you when you got home.”

I nodded, even though I was still irritated about the whole situation.

“So, I'm still going to work tomorrow,” I told him.

“Aight.”

“And I'm not taking no days off because of Courtney or David.”

“I hear you, ma.”

I looked at him for a second. “That's it?”

“What else you want me to say?”
