"Man, I was, but I got caught up talking to my sister. I was coming up there in like five minutes. You are early."
“And you should’ve still beat me there. Hop in, little nigga.”
Michael took a few more steps, then turned around and walked backwards.
"Yo, Justice, make sure Toya gets in the house."
“Come on, Toya, I’ll walk you home.” Justice said, hopping off the green box.
I looked back towards the truck that Michael was walking up to, hoping to remember at least the license plate tag or something. That’s when I caught eyes with Duke, who was staring in my direction, and I quickly turned my head the other way. I was already timid around Caine, and I sure as hell was going to be timid with the brother they said was a fucked up version of him.
I prayed on my way up the sidewalk that Michael wasn’t about to be the next man on a T-shirt, with a balloon release in his honor. Especially with hanging around men as dangerous as I hear Duke Essex is. I mean, what the hell did those two have in common?
Chapter 2
Duke
All I had to do was roll my window down and stare at the little nigga Michael, and he was walking up to my truck because he knew exactly what time it was. When he reached up and grabbed the door handle, I wanted to snatch his ass up into the cab, but at that same time, my eyes were too caught up on the shorty standing off in the distance near the green box, looking over at us.
She was pretty, ass fat enough to make a nigga want to beg for a handful, and I could see her pretty ass lips from here. I always been a sucker for some big ass lips on a female. I think my obsession started back in the day when me and all my brothers thought Megan Good was the definition of fine.
I didn’t really have a preference, but this girl right here would be if I did. Brown skinned, thick as tension. If I wasn’t over here for business, I would take her ass with me no matter if her nigga was out here with her ass or not.
Once Michael climbed into the truck, he reached over the center console to shake my hand, and I slapped his out my face.
“Fuck a handshake. Who was that bitch standing over there with you?”
“Who, what bitch?”
“There is only one woman standing in that direction. Don’t play crazy.” He looked back out the passenger window.
“Oh, that’s Toya. She’s my brother Damon’s girl.”
“Yo brother, who is in jail?”
“Yeah.”
“Dumb ass nigga. If I had a female like that out here, cops couldn’t pry me away from that pussy. Not even with handcuffs.”
I took one last look out of the window before I pushed the gas pedal down to the floor. My truck sped off, doing a donut before I wrenched the wheel straight, leaving out the spot the gate used to stand.
“Duke, I was about to call to see how far you were from the front.” I looked over at him and then back at the road, because I didn’t want to have a conversation with him right now. Not here, not on this busy ass street.
I hit the first turn on Richmond, drove through a few red lights, and then made another left into the parking lot of an office space that had a security guard sitting in a car at the entrance, but I wasn’t worried about that nigga. He would be part of my crime scene cleanup if necessary.
I shifted gears, putting my truck into park, and looked over to Michael, who was trembling in my passenger seat. The soft R&B music playing through my speakers made the vibe in here seem completely different than what it actually was. I was on demon time tonight.
“Now, tell me who the fuck else was shooting into the crowd the night my daughter was shot?”
“What, what you mean? I told you it was Brice, Loc, and Smoke.”
I reached over to him and wrapped my hand around his neck, squeezing his shit with little effort, but that niggas eyes said otherwise. I cut off his airway for about ten seconds before I finally let his neck go, and the little nigga started breathing like he was coming out of water. For my daughter Mirical, I would squeeze a nigga neck until it snaps.
Coughing
“Damn, Duke, I’m telling you the truth, man. I’ve told you all I know.”
I took a deep breath, reaching under my seat to grab the same gun I’d killed the little nigga Smoke with earlier. The gun would be chunked soon, but not until I finish my night of get back. Fuck what Caine said.
