“My black flats.”

“No idea.”

“You hid them.”

“I did not.”

“You absolutely hid them.” I remained silent, her expression sharpened. That woman knew me too well. “Viking.”

“They weren't suitable.”

“They're flat.”

“They have no ankle support.” She stared at me but I crossed my arms.

“Your balance is different.”

“My balance is fine.”

“You fell yesterday.”

“I tripped over Lucien's son's toy dragon.”

“Exactly.”

“That had nothing to do with the shoes.”

“You could have broken your ankle.”

“I was barefoot.”

“Proves my point.” Her mouth fell open, for three seconds, nothing came out. Then she pointed at me.

“You are impossible.”

“Alive, though.”

“Barely.” I walked toward her before she could start moving. Seven months had taught me several things. First, pregnant Bryn became angry quickly. Second, hungry pregnant Bryn became homicidal. Third, if I allowed an argument to continue too long, she became emotional, then I became terrified, then I agreed to whatever the fuck she'd wanted in the first place. So, I had learned, mostly.

I stopped in front of her. My hands automatically settled around the heavy curve of her stomach, both babies moved. My entire brain stopped working, every fucking time.

“Hello,” I murmured.

Bryn's anger faded slightly. “You can't use them to distract me.”

“I wasn't.”

“You are currently ignoring me for my stomach.”

“Our children are in there.”

“I know. You put them there.” I looked at her and saw that she smirked.

My mouth twitched. “You are a dangerous woman.”

“Shoes.”

I sighed. “They're in the wardrobe.”
