I did.

“We're not going after him.”

I blinked. “What?”

“Not yet.”

The anger was still there, I could feel it but beneath it was something else, patience. Almost more frightening than the rage.

“He knows we found the warehouse,” Viking said. “And that we know about Malakai. Does he know that the demons failed to kill us?”

Roman nodded. “He'll expect retaliation.”

“So we don't give it to him.” I looked between them.

Draugr smiled slightly. “Ceasar likes traps.”

Viking's eyes stayed on mine. “He nearly killed me because I walked into one.” His thumb moved slowly against my hip. “I won't make that mistake twice.”

“What will you do?”

“Let him think I'm recovering.”

“You are recovering.”

“Yes.”

“Viking.” His mouth twitched but then he became serious again.

“We tighten the mansion. Protect the families. Find every leak in our organisation. Cut Malakai's supply lines and destroy Ceasar's network one piece at a time.”

Roman continued, “We make him blind.”

Draugr added, “Then deaf.”

Viking's eyes hardened. “Then we wait.”

“For what?” His gaze held mine.

“For him to get angry.” Understanding came slowly.

“You want him to come here.”

“Not here.” Viking's hand moved instinctively toward my stomach. “Never here.”

Roman nodded. “We choose the ground.”

“We choose the time,” Draugr said.

“And Ceasar,” Viking finished quietly, “comes to us.”

I searched his face. “You're really not leaving tonight?”

His eyebrows rose and then he shakes his head. “Dragan threatened to chain me to the bed.”

“That wasn't my question.”

“No.”
