“She's safe.”

“Keep her away.”

Roman looked at me. “Viking.”

“Keep her the fuck away from me.”

“Why?”

My anger exploded. “LOOK AT ME!” Silence dropped around us as I pointed weakly toward the blood covering Volken. “She was fucking shot, Roman. She watched that bullet come through our home. She's carrying my child and has spent the last fucking month terrified every time I leave after dark.”

My voice cracked. “She doesn't need to see this.”

Roman's expression softened. “Brother.”

“No.” I grabbed his shirt or tried but my fingers barely closed around the fabric. “Please.” That silenced everyone. “I don't want her scared.”

Roman's eyes moved over my face. “You think she isn't already?”

Fuck. The bond pulsed with fear, Bryn's fear. I shut my eyes. “Keep her upstairs.”

Roman's jaw tightened. “I'll try.”

It wasn't enough, but it was all I was getting. “Move!” Roman shouted.

They carried me inside, the entrance hall blurred around me. Guards flattened themselves against walls. Someone shouted for the medical room. Another set of hands grabbed me but I snarled. “Don't fucking touch me.”

“It's Kosta,” a familiar voice said.

I opened my eyes. Kosta. His expression changed when he saw me properly. “Boss.”

“Don't start.”

His jaw clenched. He took some of my weight anyway as they got me downstairs. The medical room had once looked absurd to me. A fully equipped surgical suite beneath a private mansion seemed excessive even for us.

It didn't seem excessive now as they dumped me onto the table. The impact sent agony through me. “FUCK!”

Volken grabbed my shoulders. Lucien caught my legs. “What are you doing?”

“Stopping you from ripping someone's throat out,” Lucien said.

“Move.”

“No.”

A healer rushed toward me, an old vampire. Dragan. I'd known him for more than a century. He took one look at the wound. “Who fed him?”

“Me,” Volken answered.

“How much?”

“Enough to keep him conscious.”

“Anyone else?”

“No.”

Dragan cut away what remained of my shirt. His face went grim. “Shit.”
