“Fuck!” I grunt

Volken slammed me back. “STOP FUCKING MOVING!”

“Get your hands off me.”

“No.”

“Volken.”

“No.”

“I can fucking sit up.”

“You can't fucking sit.”

“Watch me.”

“Viking,” Lucien snapped, “if you try proving your masculinity by spilling the rest of your blood across my fucking seats, I will personally knock you unconscious.”

I looked around. “Your seats?”

Lucien glanced at the interior. “Apparently.” Despite everything, Volken barked a laugh but quickly stopped as his face changed and his hands pressed harder. Warmth spread beneath me, too much warmth. Blood, more fucking blood.

“Shit.” That one word killed the humour.

“How far?” Draugr demanded.

“Two minutes,” the driver answered.

“Make it one.” The SUV accelerated as I closed my eyes again. Bryn. The bond was getting harder to hold. That terrified me more than the wound, I could still feel her but she seemed farther away as though a thick wall had been placed between us. No. Fuck that. I reached. Bryn.

Warmth answered. I could sense the fear the love. My fingers clenched, stay there, angel, don't come outside, don't see this because I knew exactly what she'd see. Blood, too much of it. My face probably looked like death.

My shirt had been cut open. Volken's hands were covered in my blood. Lucien's were too and if Bryn saw me like this...Fuck.

“Call Roman.”

Draugr already had his phone out. “He knows we're coming.”

“Tell him…Bryn stays in…side.”

Lucien looked at me. “Viking.”

“Tell him.”

“She'll feel you.”

“I don't give a fuck.” Lie. I gave every fuck, that was precisely why I needed her kept away. “She doesn't see me like this.”

Draugr's jaw tightened. “Roman,” he said into the phone. A pause. “We're at the gates.” Another pause. Then his eyes flicked toward me. “No. Worse.” Fuck him.

“Tell him Bryn stays inside.” Draugr listened. His expression became almost sympathetic. I hated that expression.

“What?”

“He said good luck with that.”

“Draugr.”
