The door slams open and Godric’s there, his nostrils flaring as his gold-ringed irises flick to my body barely obscured by the sheets.

Suddenly, I’m not so sure giving in to my impulsions with Arwan was such a good idea.

Except, Godric had actually knocked before entering. That says something, right?

“You knew she’d wake up today,” Godric states. It’s framed as an accusation, but the Alpha hasn’t killed the royal yet. That’s a start.

Did he come straight from a pack meeting? I wonder. I’m not sure what he’s been up to all these months that I’ve been sleeping, but he’s always seemed to put the pack first.

Although, he had clearly arrived here without even grabbing a shirt, like he’d been in some sort of rush.

He’s wearing loose pants that hang low on his hips, giving me a full view of his muscular body that’s covered in scars and his shifter tattoos. There’s a circular shape forming at the center of his chest, intriguing me. It doesn’t look like a scar, but something forming.

Like his necklace.

Did that come from his body?

His long braids drape over his wide shoulders, and all I can think about is the last time he was inside me, so close to losing control.

The memory makes me release a whimper. Godric’s pupils dilate in response.

“Can you tone it down a notch?” Arwan demands of Godric as he swings himself over the bed and places himself between me and the snarling Alpha.

Pain blooms deep in my core as my temperature spikes, making sweat break out on my brow.

Is Godric’s mere presence making me go into a new heat?

This isn’t good.

Maybe that’s why he kept his distance after I had rejected him.

“Why does she smell like you?” Godric says on a rumbling growl that has a lethal threat to it.

I’m afraid there’s not a good answer for his wolf that clearly has taken over control.

The pack master, the man, has begrudgingly accepted my rejection.

But his beast has seemingly decided what is his regardless of what anybody else wants. Even his other half.

Or maybe his wolf just knows a lie when he smells one.

My thighs squeeze together to stem the fresh ache at the powerful claim burning in his increasingly golden eyes.

“Because I’m her sponsor,” Arwan says matter-of-factly. He slips on his royal robe that pleasantly drapes over him. I don’t even remember when he had taken that off. “She’s spent a lot of time in my realm, Godric. I did what I could in there, but now that she’s awake and stable from my assistance, she needs to see the Outcast. He’s her sponsor, too, whether either of us wants to admit it. We are in a triad, and you know how those work. Everyone does. They’re rare for a reason.”

A low rumble rolls through the room, making me whimper again.

How does Arwan freaking know everything?

And why does Godric have to keep making that sound?

Arwan backs up and places a hand on my shoulder. He doesn’t slide his gaze away from Godric, but his touch is enough to keep my temperature from spiking even further.

“My wolf is riding me hard, Arwan,” Godric snarls. “He doesn’t want to share her with you, triad be damned. He doesn’t want me to accept her rejection, either, and now he’s feeling possessive. I suggest you remove your hand from her before I rip it off.”

Arwan doesn’t do any such thing. Instead, he curls his fingers through my hair and scratches my scalp.

My eyelids flutter at the pleasant sensation.
