Gerard screamed and foamed at the mouth.
Kendara looked at Kent. “This is a list of every item Gerard placed in Meadow’s name. Kent, I don’t understand your client’s motives. Meadow’s been struggling for a fuckin’ year because he wouldn’t pay child support, and yet he moved everything into her name. Gerard is basically an idiot. Whatever plan he had backfired. Then Gerard signed off on the divorce, knowing what he’d done. Seriously, Kent, what a loser.”
Kent looked disgusted, and it was clear he was trying to understand too. He shook his head.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. Did Gerard lose his mind?” Kent asked, his eyes narrowed on Kendara. He was searching for a sign of weakness.
“Don’t ask me. Kent, make sure he understands what belongs to Meadow. Your client signed off on this; we didn’t force him, and this has been recorded as per your client’s instructions.” Kendara stood up and stared down at Gerard. She rose and began walking away. Silently, I followed behind without dancing, as I wanted to.
Judy gaped as I passed her. I paused and looked down at her. Words weren’t needed, but I shook my head and grinned. All the misery this bitch had put me and my children through. It had come back to roost on her head.
Judy was beginning to realise what she’d lost. Gerard wasn’t as rich as Lyle had been, but he could drop fifty k on a necklace for her without even hesitating.
I carried on past her.
Gerard would be rabid, and I didn’t wish to hang around. He began screaming at me as the security held him down, and I escaped quickly.
“Wait till Gerard realises that he also signed over his bank account to you.” Kendara grinned, and I nearly collapsed in shock.
“Has Gerard got anything left?”
“Yes. His parents’ house. That’s a good reminder of his beginnings. And Gerard kept the shares he owns in the company. We let Gerard keep those, although we were tempted to take the mistresses,” a guy, Diesel, said from behind me.
“Are they worth anything?”
“Not when we’ve finished fuckin’ his business over,” Diesel replied as Kendara whistled.
“What Kendara doesn’t hear, she doesn’t know,” he explained.
“Diesel, shush,” Kendara warned, but she smiled all the way as we left the building.
“Sell it all,” I said to Kendara as we rode back to Merritt. Diesel was driving our SUV, something about a ‘just in case scenario.’
“You don’t want any of it? None of the houses, cars or the yacht?” she asked.
“I’ll take the kids’ stuff, and that’s it. Sell everything else, including the jewellery, designer dresses, and shoes,” I replied.
“Okay, I can do that. And the proceeds?”
“Twenty per cent to charity and then split four ways. A quarter each held in trust until my children turn thirty-five. They’ll get a monthly allowance to live on, but stagger it to increase at certain milestones. Eventually they’ll marry, buy a house, have babies, etcetera. I want the remaining quarter allocated to me as a monthly stipend, too. I didn’t want everything; I just wanted my fair share,” I said. However, I was going to accept it; my kids would never know hunger or fear again. Gerard had betrayed them for the final time.
Now, I’d take steps to protect them. I wouldn’t put it past Gerard to wriggle his way back into their good graces and get the money out of them. That wouldn’t happen. Not on my watch.
“I’ll have everything drawn up. Be careful, I’d stick close to Merritt for a while. Gerard is going to come for you,” Kendara warned. “He’ll also probably file papers.”
“Will he win?” I worried.
“No, I was incredibly careful with the wording of the agreement. Gerard knew exactly what he was signing. Plus, I had the top five experts confirm that signature. Nobody’s stupid enough to go against them. The judge will think Gerard’s regretting his actions, but it’s going to be too late,” Kendara replied.
“Everything is really mine? It won’t up and disappear?” I asked, still not convinced.
“Nope. The layers in place to protect it will ensure you can do what you want. If anyone tries to hack the accounts, we’ll get an alert,” Diesel reassured. “And we’ve put guards on the house. Asshole won’t be able to break in.”
“Thank you, I don’t know what to say,” I replied.
“Thanks is enough. We hate seeing innocents getting screwed over by assholes. If we can fuck them over, the better!” Diesel smirked.
I began laughing and found it hard to stop.
