Jax looks at her. “Don't encourage him.”
She smiles sweetly. “Somebody has to.”
I grin.
Midnight Press is packed. Avery has transformed the bookstore into something out of a romance reader's dream, complete with pink flowers, candles, and a display of Laney's pink-covered books near the entrance.
And there she is. Sitting behind a table, looking beautiful and nervous and happier than I've ever seen her.
A real published author.
My brilliant, beautiful girl. Green eyes shining with excitement.
When the signing officially begins, I step forward and place my copy on the table.
“Excuse me, ma'am. Could you make it out to your biggest fan?”
Laney looks up. Her smile nearly knocks me on my ass. “Bishop.”
“That's me.”
“You already have three copies.”
“Four. Ordered another one this morning.”
She laughs. “You're ridiculous.”
“Been told that. But then again, I wouldn’t be the first person to own four copies of the same book.”
She opens the pink book.
“To Bishop?”
I lean closer. “Actually, make it out to Ken.”
She bursts out laughing. Then bends over the page, writing something I can't see.
When she finishes, she slides it toward me.
I look down.
To Ken,
For believing in my stories before I believed in myself.
Turns out the best love stories aren't the ones we write.
They're the ones we get to live.
11:11, thanks for making all my wishes come true!
Love always,
Becks
I stare at the words. Then look up at her.
“Baby.”
