Bishop's game starts at seven.

Against St. Louis.

Declan's in town.

And suddenly I know exactly where I need to be.

BISHOP

Declan Beckett is standing in front of me, wearing an Archers jersey and looking like he's about to punch me.

Again.

“You're a fucking idiot.”

I sigh.

“Good to see you too, D.”

We're standing in the hallway outside the visiting locker room, about an hour before puck drop.

Chicago and St. Louis are fighting for playoff positioning, and tonight's game could decide which team takes the division lead.

It's a big one.

But apparently my best friend has decided we have more important things to discuss.

“You're really going to let her go?”

I rub a hand over my jaw.

“It's not my decision.”

“Bullshit.”

“Beckett.”

“No. You listen.”

He steps closer.

“You spent five years wanting my sister. Five years. Then you finally got your head out of your ass long enough to do something about it.”

“Appreciate the recap.”

“And now you're just going to stand there while she moves to New York?”

“It's her career. Her dream career.”

“And what about you?”

“What about me?”

He stares at me.

“Jesus Christ, Bish.”

I look away.
