“No, friend. You didn’t do anything wrong. Has promised me a kiss on the rooftop.”
I opened the door at the top of the stairs, and the cool air rushed in. I wrapped my coat tight around me and looked around the crowd. God, Has. By my side my whole fucking life, and now when I really need your ass, I can’t find you.
Will was following silently behind me.
“Ten… Nine…”
I turned a corner and saw Hasan—hands everywhere, mouth on someone else’s, fully and unmistakably occupied.
“Oh,” I breathed. Shit!
I spun back just as Will came up behind me and planted both hands on his chest.
“Was that him?” Fuck!
“Six… Five…”
“Yeah, uh, he was with someone.”
“What the fuck? Who?” Instantly pissed, he tried to push past me.
“Four… Three…”
“Will, stop. It’s fine. We’re not together,” I cried, still pushing him back. This night was a disaster.
“Two…”
He really looked at me then, and it was like something clicked.
“One,” he said.
And in one smooth motion, Will lifted me up by my thighs, pressed me against the perimeter wall, and kissed the absolute fuck out of me. He groaned into my mouth, and heat spread from his lips to my brain to my clit, and my whole body was on fire.
New Year’s cheers sounded around us, and I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. I was gone from this earthly plane.
His hips held me in place, and his hands were in my hair and around my neck and on my ribs, and it was the most spine-melting kiss I’ve ever received in my life. I moaned and rocked against him, panting as he licked into my mouth. My fingers gripped his belt to keep him from pulling away.
For a moment, everything stilled as we caught our breath.
But then he opened his stupid fucking mouth—“I’m so sorry you saw that, Louisa”—and burst my goddamned bubble.
Will
Something shuttered in her face. Fuck.
My hands felt all the parts of her that were set to explode just seconds ago go slack, and then she pushed against my belt buckle to let her down.
My heart dropped through the floor just like it did when she kissed me at Wilderness, but then I knew what it meant, and this time, something was missing. I stepped back and searched her face.
She wasn’t looking at me now, but for a moment she had been right there with me. I felt her kiss me back. I felt her body connect with mine in every way. It was like the night I met her. Electric. Unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. Mine.
She looked like she was about to cry. Did I do that to her? I just wanted her to feel beautiful, to feel wanted, treasured. And kissing her might have been the only thing that stopped me from beating the shit out of Hasan for hurting her this way. What a fucking asshole!
“Louisa—‘’
“Will, don’t. I don’t give a shit about you and Nathalie.”
I balked. Wait. What?
