My eyes flicked up to his icy glare. He’d been acting like an ass since he showed up at my place, and I told him, for what I hoped would be the final time, that a relationship wasn’t in our future.
I expected as much.
Luke wasn’t used to women rejecting him. He was a college-star hockey player and was going places—NHL places —and these women weren’t dumb. They were chasing the bag and auditioning to be his WAG, and my disinterest was a slash to his tender ego.
“You’re right, Luke. Thanks for the reminder. I apologize for disturbing the learning environment. I’ll step out,” I said passive-aggressively before taking my leave.
“You don’t have to be a wise ass,” he called after me.
I closed the door behind me and checked my phone, scrolling through the insane amount of texts and missed calls from Hart.
Sweet❤️ : Pick up the phone.
Sweet❤️: I don’t like it when you ignore me.
Sweet❤️: What are you doing?
Sweet❤️: Are you still at the library?
Sweet❤️: I know it’s not game night, but can you stay over tonight?
Sweet❤️: I swear to God…
Sweet❤️: Verydian….
Sweet❤️: We have plans, or did you forget?
Sweet❤️: That’s fine. I’ll take my other sugar baby.
I snorted, rolled my eyes, and texted him back.
Me: Have fun taking her with you to get new tires and a windshield for the Bronco.
Sweet❤️: Don’t forget the headlights.
Me: You’re toxic.
Sweet❤️: Only for you, Sugar.
I made sure I was a safe distance away from the quiet rooms when I called Hart, and I wasn’t surprised when he picked up on the first ring.
“I’m outside.”
I frowned, and my brows joined in confusion.
“Outside? Outside, where?”
“Outside the library.”
“No, you’re not.”
Hart might be a little reckless, but he’s not crazy.
Suddenly, I heard his obnoxious engine revving.
This man is trying to get us caught!
“Are you crazy or concussed?” I hissed.
