“Eeeeeep!” she squeals again. “Wait, did you sleep with him?”
My stomach does a backflip. “No! No. No, no, no. When we got back to the hotel, I … I accidentally laughed at his dick.”
Rachel chokes on her sip of water. “What?”
“I didn’t see it or anything,” I explain quickly, flames scorching the sides of my face. “It was just … we were kissing some more and then he pressed me against the wall and I felt …” I cover my face in my hands again. “It just caught me by surprise. Oh, I probably made a fool out of myself. Or hurt his feelings. Who does that?”
“Hey,” Rachel says softly. “It’s fine. It’s been a minute since you’ve been around a dick.”
I meet her gaze, and we both burst into laughter.
“I’m sure he has a very nice one too,” I muse.
Rachel waggles her eyebrows. “Oh girl, I bet he does.” She glances behind me. “Speaking of nice dicks …”
I whirl around to see Agustín and Diego walking toward our table.
“Morning amor,” Diego says, sliding into the seat next to Rachel and kissing her cheek. Agustín sits beside me. For a panicked second, I wonder if he’s going to kiss my cheek too. But he just squeezes my hand under the table once then releases me.
“Diego was telling me you two have another family dinner this evening,” Agustín says to Rachel.
“Oh yeah,” Rachel says, huffing out the side of her mouth. “His dad’s family this time. They rented out the entire restaurant. I really wish my Spanish were better.”
“Your Spanish is great,” Diego says. “And you know my family speaks English.”
“Yeah, but only because I’m there. I don’t want to be the gringa that forces everyone to speak a different language.”
“Poco a poco,” Diego says, taking her hand in his so he can kiss it. “My family adores you no matter what language you speak.” Rachel smiles, looking mollified.
We order breakfast from the waiter. I’m hyper aware of Agustín next to me, the clean scent of his hoodie, one elbow propped up on the table.
“So what are you two up to today?” Diego asks us.
I look to Agustín, since obviously I have no idea. But looking at him sends all these wild flutters across my skin, my mouth watering, my stomach tightening. It suddenly occurs to me that I get to keep kissing him. This wasn’t a one-time thing.
My pulse kicks up a notch.
“I thought we could go to the Museo Nacional de Antropología,” Agustín says.
“Qué cool,” Diego says. “That’s a great museum, really spectacular,” he says to me. “It’s got so much history and artifacts from all the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mexico.”
Rachel elbows him in the ribs. “How come you’ve never taken me there, babe?”
Diego smooths back his slick, dark hair. “Because we always have a packed schedule when we come.”
She purses her lips. “Yeah, that’s true.” Her eyes brighten. “Hey, what if we all went to dinner this week! Just the four of us. Let’s see, tomorrow is the bachelorette … oh, we have an evening free the day before the rehearsal dinner.” I shoot her a warning look that says I will murder her if she mentions the words “double date.” “We can go someplace cool. Agustín’s choice. Sorry, amor, I’m sick of all your usual spots in Polanco.”
“Sounds good to me,” Diego says.
“Yay!” Rachel claps her hands together. “It’s a date.”
She winks at me, and I glower.
After breakfast, Agustín and I head back to our room to get ready for the day. I’m glad he showered already, so we don’t have to do this weird dance of the bathroom. My pulse sprints as we walk side by side to the elevators, the Wheel click-click-clicking away.
What do we do now?
When do we start kissing again?
