I smile too.
That’s the weirdest part of all of this.
It’s not just that kissing Emma is incredible.
It’s that kissing her still feels like hanging out with my best friend.
Only significantly better.
EMMA
The sun has been down for hours when Vinny walks me outside to my car.
I came over for breakfast. It’s now ten p.m. Apparently, time flies when you’re cuddling and kissing all day.
“Okay.” I turn around beside my car. “I really am leaving this time.”
Vinny kisses my cheek. Then my other cheek. “Sure.”
“I am.” I push against his chest.
“I believe you.” He pulls back, but the smile on his mouth says he absolutely doesn’t believe me.
“You’re just a hard person to leave.” My eyes sweep across his handsome face and stop on the lone piece of hair that’s fallen over his forehead above his brow.
I can’t even count all the times over the years that I wished I could push it back up into place.
Slowly, my hand lifts.
“What are you doing?” His brows fold.
“Let me have my moment.” I push the strand back then run my fingers through his hair and sigh. “As good as I’d imagined.”
“What?” he laughs.
“Don’t worry about it.” I give him a quick kiss.
“I told you, you’d come back for more,” he mumbles against my lips.
“Nope that’s it.” I pull back, even going as far as unlocking my arms from his neck. “I have a chinchilla at home who has been neglected the last two days because of you.”
“Because of me?” His mouth falls open in the cutest way.
“Yeah, you’re moving into my number one spot in my heart. Chili doesn’t stand a chance.”
“Just moving into it? I’m not already there?”
“Well,” I tease, “Chili’s hard to overtake.”
“You don’t even like Chili.”
“I like him now that his cage smells better.” I go up on my toes and kiss him one more time real quick. “Okay. That’s it. This really is goodbye.”
I grab my car handle and open the door.
“No, don’t leave,” Vinny whines.
“We both know I have to.”
