“Then let’s go ask them.” I looked to Shadow, who nodded.

“Spider, you’re with us,” Shadow said, standing and checking the barrel of his gun.

Ten minutes later, the three of us were parked half a street away from the clinic. Spider scanned the street while I couldn’t take my eyes off the entrance.

“Nothing.”

The clinic looked normal, staff coming and going, patients drifting through the doors, but no Kings or obvious surveillance.

“Is the nurse working today?” Shadow asked.

My mind went blank. I didn’t know. How the hell did I not know if she was working or not? “I don’t know.” My eyes settled again on the entrance, and I wondered if we’d wasted our time. Should we have been checking out my place instead?

Shadow’s gaze settled across the road. “There.”

I followed his line of sight into an alley and tucked away out of sight were three bikes and three men wearing kuttes.

Anger surged, and I got off my bike, followed by Shadow and Spider.

The second the Kings spotted us, one of them smiled.

We crossed the street, and the Kings climbed off their bikes. They didn’t look worried, and that unsettled me.

Shadow stopped in front of them. “What are you doing here?”

The biggest one shrugged. “Enjoying the view.”

Spider folded his arms. “Funny.”

The King looked past us toward the clinic, then his eyes landed on me. “Your pretty little nurse works here, doesn’t she?”

Anger flared hot inside me as Shadow sighed and Spider muttered, “Ah, fuck.”

The King smirked. “We were just hoping to catch—”

I hit him before he finished the sentence, and he hit the ground hard. Blood streamed from his nose while he tried dragging himself backwards across the pavement. I grabbed the front of his kutte and hauled him back up. “You stay the fuck away from her.”

The bastard laughed through bloody teeth.

I slammed him into the wall again. “You hear me?”

His head cracked against brick.

“You don’t look at her.” Another slam. “You don’t talk to her.”

Blood smeared across the wall.

“You don’t even drive down her fucking street.”

“Riot.” Spider’s voice barely registered.

I was already drawing my arm back again when a hand landed on my shoulder, heavy and solid. “Enough,” Shadow said, cutting through the red haze.

I stepped back and let the man go, and he collapsed in a heap at our feet.

Shadow looked down at him before shaking his head. “Get him outta here and get a couple of ours to keep an eye on this place.”

Spider immediately picked up his phone and started barking orders.
