Chapter 25
Quinny Parks
A Week Later
Things were finally beginning to feel normal again. Well, my new normal, the one that included my soulmate being a vampire, my sister being pregnant by a vampire, and finding out almost all the mythical creatures I’d read about growing up were real. This life I was living seemed crazy as hell, and I still had a hard time believing it myself, but when I experienced it firsthand, I had no other choice but to believe it.
“I’m sorry, Emberly,” I hurried to speak into the phone.
“Sorry? Sorry? Do you bitches know the emotional turmoil I went through when I couldn’t get either one of you on the phone, and now you want to play fucking games like I’m a joke? I would expect this from Sutton, but not you!” Emberly yelled into the phone, sounding like she was foaming at the mouth.
After everything that had taken place with Dante, I found out my mama was alive and well. In fact, she hunted the very beings that my soulmate was. Then she decided to blurt out everything about Aunt Tela, my dad, and Emberly supposedly being our sister. My mind needed a break because it seemed like everything was hitting me at once. There were too many big things for me to process at once. I had to take a few steps back to get my mind together. The only person I checked on was Sutton. Once I laid eyes on her, I took my ass home. I didn’t even have the mental capacity to tell her about Benji or his little side piece. I did tell Benji he had one week to tell Sutton the truth, or I was going to tell her. He seemed like he listened; however, it had been a week, and when I talked to Sutton, she still liked Benji, which meant he hadn’t told her anything. Sutton would have been trying to kill Benji if she knew he was carrying on with another woman, vampire or not. She was going to be pissed.
A few days after everything was said and done, I did tell Sutton about seeing our mom and what she’d said. Sutton made it very clear she wanted no parts of meeting our mom. She felt like her abandoning us ended our connection to her. Sutton was more interested in Aunt Tela and our dad being soulmates, and so was I, but that meant we’d have to talk to our mama. She was the one with all the answers. Whether Sutton wanted to or not, we were going to have to deal with our mama in some capacity. I figured I’d just have to be the one to talk to our mama, which was fine with me. Once I was able to get my emotions together, I was able to think clearly, and I wanted to hear what our mama had to say about everything. I had already come to terms with the fact that I might not accept her reasoning, but I felt I needed it for the closure.
“Okay, bu—” I tried to explain more to Emberly, but she cut me off again.
“But my ass, Quinny. Fucking vampires? How stupid do you think I am? Why can’t you just tell me where you really are? Cool, you said fuck me over some dick. The least you can do is give me an address.”
I was finally able to find Emberly’s number. Thankfully, my amazing soulmate went back and found my phone in that cornfield. He charged it for me and all. I was happy that Kenji was as thoughtful and caring as he was. What made it better, I didn’t have to ask him to. He went and got the phone himself. I had the best soulmate in the world. I was excited because I wanted to talk to Emberly. Whether she was our cousin or sister didn’t matter to me. All I knew was I loved her like a sister already. Things wouldn’t be different than they were now. I figured Emberly would be a little pissed off not hearing from me or Sutton for two weeks. However, I thought after I explained everything, she’d be a little more understanding. Nope, she’d been livid, cussing me clean out. The only time she was nice was when we first got on the phone. Emberly cried when she heard my voice, making me feel like shit for not making calling her more of a priority. Then, like a light switch, Emberly went from crying to a raging bull, especially when I tried to tell her about the vampires and everything that had been going on with us.
“Emberly, we can send someone to come get you.” One of the laws of the Fifth Region: it was illegal to give a human the location of any vampire settlements. Kenji did, however, say he’d send a ride for her to come out here to visit if she wanted to.
Of course, that didn’t work for Emberly. She acted like she needed to know our exact location. No matter how I tried to change her mind, she wasn’t budging.
“Okay, you wanna do this the hard way. Fine by me,” Emberly said, chuckling angrily.
“What does that mean?” I asked her, confused.
“When I pull up on you and Sutton, I hope y’all are ready to fight me. Y’all scared the fuck outta me. Had me thinking I was in this world all alone while you two were laid up with some nigga. It’s cool, ’cause y’all hos gone see me,” Emberly spat before hanging up the phone.
I had to laugh because Emberly was dead serious. When her feelings got hurt, the first thing she did was want to fight. You made her cry, she was gonna fight you. My girl was a fighter, and although I could hold my own, nobody was trying to deal with Emberly. She was the type of female you’d have to beat down with a baseball bat because she wouldn’t stop trying to fight you until she beat you, and even then, she still might try to come back for another round.
“She’s pissed, huh?” Kenji asked, standing behind me shirtless, drinking a cup of blood.
I was still getting used to this drinking blood thing. Kenji didn’t drink directly from humans; he preferred his blood to be chilled in a cup. Kenji said I’d only have to feed from him. His blood was enough to sustain me. That was right up my alley because the thought of drinking someone else’s blood grossed me out. I could deal with drinking Kenji’s blood. It was sweet, and I loved how it tasted.
Kenji, Benji, and Tahji had been on high alert since finding out about the Empress. They weren’t telling their parents or anyone else in the Ursa because they weren’t sure who was working with her. It was obvious she’d had some inside help, and Kenji said he didn’t fully trust anyone outside of his brothers. For now, they were keeping everything secretive, at least until they got a better lead. They blamed my kidnapping on random Blood Rock users trying to make money by holding me for ransom. From what I could tell, no one questioned their story, and other than increased patrol from The Impact, everything was moving like normal.
Turning to face him, I said, “Pissed is the understatement. You think Sutton is crazy, wait until you meet Emberly.” I made my eyes bulge to emphasize how crazy my sister, cousin, was.
“I guess I better hurry up and put one of my offspring inside of you so she won’t fuck you up too bad,” he said, teasing me. I pushed him in his chest.
“Shut up.”
“Make me,” Kenji sensually said as our eyes locked and my body began to heat up.
Kenji was a drug I couldn’t get enough of. No matter how many times I got a taste of him, it never curbed my craving for him. I always wanted another round. Since we’d been back home, we’d done a lot of rolling around in the sheets. Kenji said we were making up for lost time. Even though we weren’t apart that long, I still went with what he said. It sounded good to me. Any excuse to feel Kenji’s dick inside of me was right in my eyes. When I thought back to me running from Kenji, I wanted to kick myself for almost cheating myself out of experiencing Kenji. No man on earth was like Kenji, and even if there was a man like Kenji, I didn’t want to find out. He was it for me. I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with him each passing day. It might have only been two weeks, but it felt like two years. I licked my lips, showing Kenji my fangs. I loved biting into Kenji’s flesh. It always made him cum instantly, and I got to taste his blood. Seeing his neck with my bite marks on it was a proud moment for me. Everyone got to see who Kenji belonged to. I opened my mouth to say a slick comment when loud yelling came from outside. Kenji and I shared a look, then we both ran for the front door. He opened it, allowing me to go out first with him closely behind. My mouth dropped. It was Sutton. She was barefoot, in a short silk blue camisole nightgown. She had Benji by his long locs, pulling him down to the ground as she stood over him.
“YOU HAVE A FUCKING MATE ALREADY! YOU LYING BASTARD!” Sutton raged, bending over as she grabbed his T-shirt.
I don’t know if she was trying to toss him again or what, but his shirt ended up ripping. “Sutton, calm down,” Benji pleaded remorsefully. He wasn’t trying to defend himself from Sutton. His concern seemed to be on her belly. “Our offspring…”
“Who gives a flying fuck about a damn offspring when you’ve been fucking cheating on me? Selling me a fucking dream!” she screamed, then reared back, slapping the fuck out of Benji.
He didn’t flinch. He just took her hit like it didn’t faze him.
“Oh, my goodness, she just hit Benji. Arrest her!” Melinda yelled, turning towards The Impact Force members that were starting to approach the scene.
