I appreciated the fact that Sutton was willing to go to war behind Quinny, but she had nothing to worry about because I was getting my soulmate back.

Tahji had a perplexed expression on his face once we got back inside of the car.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Ion know.” He shrugged. “Every time I hear the name Emberly, I feel the need to see her. I wanna know, is her face as pretty as her name?” Tahji said as his eyes glazed over like he was going into deep thought.

I smirked, opting to let his mind wander because I knew exactly what his curiosity about Emberly was, but I’d let him figure it out on his own. Tahji was bullheaded. He wouldn’t believe me, and my mind was too focused on getting to Quinny to try and convince him otherwise.

Chapter 23

Quinny Parks

When I opened my eyes, I expected to have a splitting headache from Dante punching me, but I felt fine. My face wasn’t sore, nor did I feel any pain. I almost thought I imagined Dante hitting me, then it clicked in my head that my soulmate was a vampire. I remembered Kenji had told me that I’d be able to heal faster once we were fully mated. It turned out having a vampire as a soulmate wasn’t as bad as I originally thought. I looked around the unfamiliar house. The living room in front of me was spotless. Two black-colored couches, glass tables trimmed in gold, and a vase of red roses sat on one of the tables. Dante was the type that loved appearances. He was always dressed to impress: fresh shoes, a flashy car, iced-out jewelry, and all that. It wasn’t that shocking that he’d taken me to a nice house. I wouldn’t expect anything less from someone like Dante. This house was nowhere near as luxurious as Kenji’s, but nonetheless, it was nice. I sighed, throwing my head back over the chair I was sitting in. I needed to get out of here before Dante and his ho came back. There was only one exit from this room: across from me, a large archway that led into the darkness of the rest of the house. The windows were tall and covered with thick, ugly, black velvet curtains. They looked like something that came out of your grandma’s house. The house was up to date and nice; however, the decorations were horrible.

I scanned the room to see if I could see anything useful, but nothing caught my attention. I tried to lift my hands but found them bound together with rope. Looking down, I saw my feet tied together as well. I attempted to see if I could wiggle loose, but I couldn’t. This rope was too fucking tight. The more I tried to wiggle free, the deeper the rope dug into my skin. I couldn’t believe Dante’s dumb ass really kidnapped me, all to keep me from Kenji. That had to be some of the dumbest shit I’d heard of. I didn’t give a fuck about catching him fucking his soulmate while we were together. Why the fuck he cared about anything I was doing with Kenji made no sense. Even Dante mentioning him working for someone sounded crazy. I knew Kenji was one of the leaders of the Fifth Region, but he made it sound like it wasn’t that big of a deal for someone to try to mess with him. A part of me wanted to know the reason behind Dante’s actions. More than anything, I wanted to get back to my soulmate.

I’m sure Kenji was going crazy trying to find me. I knew how my mate was, and he wouldn’t stop until we were reunited. Being away from him this long felt like torture. A piece of me felt like it was missing. The more time passed, the deeper the pain of being away from Kenji became. The way my body was longing for him, you’d think I hadn’t seen him in years instead of a few hours. After I reunited with Kenji, I was going to fuck him up for leaving me by myself. This was partly his fault. If he wouldn’t have left, Dante would have brought his dumb ass right to Kenji. But nooo, my mate wanted to run around and act like Bat-Fucking-Man.

“How the fuck am I going to get out of here?” I said to myself out loud.

The sounds of footsteps coming from the hallway brought my eyes to the door. I waited anxiously for someone to appear. I frowned when Amelia’s face appeared. She looked healed, a lot better than I’d left her. A trickle of blood slipped down the corner of her mouth. She hurried up, swiping the blood with her tongue. “Mmm, I love the blood of a scary bitch,” she chuckled.

“Must be drinking your own blood then?” I snickered, and Amelia scowled at me.

“Dante,” Amelia said with disgust in her voice. The deep hatred in her eyes would have burned me if her eyes were lasers. “Your little meat bag is up.” She folded her arms across her chest, her eyes glued to me.

I guess Amelia was trying to intimidate me. The icy glare she was giving me didn’t put any fear in me. I might have been quiet, but I was far from scary. You would think that Amelia would know that after the way I beat her ass. I could see vampires could be just as stupid as humans. Dante appeared in the doorway. When he tried to walk past Amelia, she grabbed his arm. Then she pulled him down into a kiss that made my stomach churn. Not because I was jealous, but the way they were kissing looked disgusting. Both their tongues were moving everywhere except in their mouths. My face scrunched up the longer I had to watch them lick each other’s faces. The two of them belonged together. Dante’s eyes popped open, looking directly at me. Then he abruptly pulled back from their sloppy-ass kiss.

“I’m sorry, Quinny,” he mumbled remorsefully, and Amelia gave him a look of death.

“Why the fuck are you apologizing to that bitch for kissing me?” Amelia asked, looking and sounding pissed off.

“It’s rude. I did cheat on her with you. She caught us having sex. We can be more considerate,” Dante explained as he slickly moved past Amelia.

“Who cares? I’m sure if her mate was here, she’d have no issue fucking him in front of you,” Amelia angrily grunted.

She wasn’t wrong. If Kenji was right here, standing in front of me, and he wanted me, I wouldn’t give a damn about Dante being here. I’d hop on Kenji’s dick without hesitation. Whatever fascination Dante had with me, he needed to let it go because those feelings weren’t reciprocated.

“I sure would fuck the shit out of him,” I said, and Dante shook his head at me, anger in his features. He went over to the couch on my right, plopping down.

“Don’t be rude, Quinny. It’s not necessary,” Dante replied with his lips turned up.

I shrugged. “I think you two kidnapping me is a lot ruder, if you ask me. I’m pretty sure it’s frowned on to take people against their will in most cultures, even vampires’,” I sarcastically spoke.

“It’s for the best. Kenji isn’t as great as you think he is,” Dante said with jealousy in his tone.

“I doubt that. Kenji is everything and then some. He’s better than I thought he was. You might wanna see if he’ll let you live. Maybe he can teach you something.” A fake smile crossed my lips.

“Bullshit. He couldn’t even keep you safe from me.”

“Speaking of that, if you’re a vampire, how did you get into Kenji’s house? I never invited you in.”

In the chaos of everything that had happened earlier, I never got the chance to figure out how Dante was able to not only open Kenji’s front door but walk in uninvited.

“Gotta key,” Dante replied cockily. He dug into his pocket, pulling out the weirdest key I’d ever seen. It was a black metallic color. The base of the key was in the shape of a skull that had multiple branches that came out from the base. The branches twisted together in a way that made it seem like it was in different shapes depending on the angle you held it at.

“One, Kenji’s house doesn’t have a keyhole. Two, you still weren’t invited in.”
