Even if that was an option, he would never let it happen. While the danger still clung to Margot, he wasn’t going to let her out of his sight. And even when it was over and they caught the asshole who was threatening her—they would because there was no other option in his mind—he wouldn’t let Margot leave him.
If that made him sound like a possessive asshole, then he’d take it, because as much as he wanted to deny his feelings for the beautiful woman sitting beside him, he couldn’t. Not after what happened today and the gut punch of fear he’d experienced when he found the tracker. Any doubts or reasons for not being close to her paled in comparison to the idea of not having her in his life at all.
“Whoever put that tracker in is going to know that it’s been found now, because it’s stopped transmitting its location. When they open the app to follow it, they’re going to see it’s last location was the office. Which could likely anger them to the point that they’re more determined to get you.”
She swallowed, and her eyes sparkled with tears. “I’m never going to be able to live my life the way I used to. I don’t know what I ever did for a person to do this to me?”
Margot blinked, and it was as though it released the dam. The tears trickled down her cheek, her despair hitting him square in the chest.
Damon grabbed her hand, tugging her until she was straddling him. The second she settled on his lap he questioned the wiseness of what he’d done. The thin fabric of his sweatpants wasn’t going to hide his body’s reaction to her closeness. As it was, he’d been half hard from the moment she opened the door and greeted him with the ridiculous pink fluffy sweater she wore. The same one she’d had on the night of their first dinner at the Como Hotel, when he’d been a dick.
He ran his fingers up the soft fabric until he reached her neck, where he stroked the soft flesh beneath her ear.
Anything that he’d been about to say to her was forgotten with her being so close to him. He lifted his gaze from where his fingers were touching, to her eyes. The emerald of her irises were dark with desire.
His cock swelled in his pants, and he didn’t even care anymore. All that he was concerned about was Margot. There was so much he still needed to talk to her about and answer her questions, but they could wait.
This couldn’t.
“You are so beautiful,” he whispered as he cupped the back of her head. The dark strands of her hair sliding through his fingers.
They both moved at the same time and their mouths met. He groaned at the first touch and leaned back against the cushions of the couch, so they were chest to chest. Her core was pressed against his cock, and he cursed the layers of fabric between them.
He teased her mouth open, and he deepened the kiss, pouring all his desire for her and his unspoken words into the kiss, hoping she understood what she meant to him.
Her hands clutched his shoulders, and he trailed his hands to the bottom of her sweater. It wasn’t tight-fitting so he was able to slip his fingers beneath it and stroke her warm flesh.
She moaned and leaned further into him, as if she wanted to become one with him. Her hips ground against his, and it took everything in him not to flip her, rip down her sweats and his, and then thrust into her until he was balls deep. But she deserved better than that.
He slowed the tempo of their kiss, nipping at her lips before he adjusted the way they were sitting, so that there was some distance between them.
No sooner had he done that, than the doorbell rang, bursting the sensual haze that clung to them.
“The pizza,” she murmured.
“Yeah. I should get it.”
She looked down at his pants, where the fabric was tented. “Maybe I should go.”
They shared a grin and then a laugh. “Yeah maybe you should.”
Margot moved off him and he mourned the loss of her warmth and closeness. She adjusted her pants and smoothed down her hair before she headed for the door.
As she reached for the door handle, he bolted up from the couch and rushed over to her side. “Wait!”
“What?”
He stood to her side. “Now you can open it.”
She gave him a weird look as if trying to work out what was going through his mind. He was finally starting to think with his big brain, not his little brain.
How careless of him to make her answer the door when she was the one in danger?
That thought had the same effect as a bucket of cold water on his lingering arousal, and by the time the door was opened, there was nothing to show that twenty seconds ago he would’ve given the delivery person an eyeful of something they wouldn’t want to see.
He was aware of Margot talking to the guy and getting the two pizzas he’d ordered, but he was also looking over the guy’s shoulder to see if there was anything out of the ordinary.
Margot closed the door and looked up at him, while holding the boxes. “You need to move.”
