“Absolutely not,” he says, shutting the door in my face.
I barely have time for it to register, let alone to feel any kind of rejection, before the door opens again, this time to a bright, smiling Holden.
He’s in a sweatshirt now, hair a little damp like he just showered, the blond a little darker against his skin. He’s very handsome, in a more soothing way than Toren, like a Botticelli angel, all peachy skin and golden hair, crystalline navy eyes all bright blues. And Toren like his foil, a living version of Cabanel’s The Fallen Angel.
“So, you did get my text,” he says in a perky voice. There’s a cut on his cheek with a butterfly bandage pulling the skin together, and a swollen bit to his bottom lip.
I nod, rocking on my heels and trying to subtly peek around him to see Toren.
“C’mon in, Lily.” Holden laughs and steps to the side to usher me in. “I’ll be back. I’m gonna grab some more food, since we missed out on the big meal.” He looks over at me as he spins a ball cap on his damp hair. “You hungry?”
It takes me a moment to realize he’s asking me and not Toren.
I shake my head. “I’m fine.”
Toren steps up beside me, towering over my side. His bright eyes sear the side of my face, but I don’t take my gaze off Holden.
“Bring her back a dessert—chocolate cake or some type of bread. Cinnamon rolls, waffles, anything like that. No ice cream.” He juts his chin out, thumb rubbing his bottom lip. His usual cluster of silver rings are missing from his hands. “Salt and vinegar chips. Lots of napkins. And some more water.”
Holden’s eyebrows shoot up in time with his bright smile as he salutes us and types out something in his phone.
“Got it! Be back in a bit.”
It’s only after the door closes that Toren asks, “What are you doing here, Lil?”
Lil. The familiar nickname makes me feel warm.
“I don’t know. I just . . .” I shrug, sitting on the edge of one of the beds. “I wanted to see you.”
Something I’ve said makes his eyes seem brighter. He smiles, his sharpened canines glinting in the low lamplight.
“Yeah?” Toren says, stepping toward me. “Just because you wanted to see me?”
I feel overly warm the closer he gets. “Y-yeah.”
He’s so close, he’s practically hovering over me, until he actually is—pressing his hands to either side of my body on the bed.
“Or do you need me to help you?”
“Help me what?”
I try to keep my voice strong, but it’s shaky at best.
“Help you come?”
My body is flat on the mattress, sinking into the bed slowly. “W-what?”
Toren’s mouth opens over my throat, kissing, then nipping it slightly—as if he can’t help but want to bite me. Just like old times.
“How wet did you get, hmm?” His nose presses into my hair, inhaling deep. “Watching me play? Watching me fight?”
Toren chuckles, and the sound wraps around my throat like a hand squeezing.
“Tell me, Lily,” he whispers into my ear, laying a kiss just beneath it, on my neck. Shivers erupt down my arms and I grip his shoulders. “Because I always get hard from fighting. So, are you wet?”
“Yes.”
“Yeah.” He gives me a wicked look, pulling back. He’s a living breathing devil. “So dirty, Little LaBlanc.”
