He lets out an impatient breath.
“Not now.”
“Just answer me.”
“For God's sake, girl.”
He takes a step in my direction.
I look straight at him.
“She deserved better than you.”
His face twists with anger.
He starts toward me.
A shout comes from outside.
“GUN DOWN!”
The side door crashes open.
The man guarding it spins toward the noise.
Striker barrels into him, knocking him away from the entrance.
My father swings his gun toward them.
Torch tackles him before he can fire.
They hit the concrete hard.
The gun skids across the floor.
Grim kicks it out of reach.
Vex is beside me a second later.
“Hold still.”
He cuts the tie around my wrists, then pulls me away from the struggle.
Across the room, Torch has my father pinned beneath him.
“You tried to kill her!”
My father struggles.
“I didn't know she was mine!”
“You knew before I got here!”
Torch draws back his fist.
“Preston!”
He stops.
