Nothing.

I check her breathing.

Shallow.

Her pulse is fast.

“Come on, little thief.”

I slip an arm beneath her shoulders and another behind her knees.

She's a gorgeous armful of soft curves, fitting against my chest like she was made to be there.

The thought catches me off guard.

I tighten my hold and head outside.

I carry her well away from the cabin before lowering her onto the grass, supporting her head against my arm.

“That's it, sweetheart. Fresh air.”

Her eyes open a fraction.

Olive-green.

Beautiful fucking eyes.

They struggle to focus on my face.

“Mom?”

Something tightens in my chest.

“No. Just me.”

She makes a tiny sound.

Then her eyes close again.

“Hey. None of that.”

I brush her dark hair away from her face.

“Stay with me.”

Nothing.

Jesus Christ.

I don't even know her name.

I've been watching this woman circle my property for three days, wondering what the hell she's after, and now she's unconscious in my arms.

I check her breathing again.

Still there.

Thank fuck.
