IF YOU OPEN THE DICTIONARY and go to the word ‘stubborn’, Wyatt’s picture is plastered next to it. This man was stubborn as all hell, and there was no fighting him when he wanted his way.

I knew he was dedicated to the game. I also knew that in order to stay dedicated to said game, he’s got to take better care of himself.

Watching him attempt to steal to get two bags on the night and not be able to just jump down there and make sure he was okay was one of the most anxiety-inducing things I’ve endured in a while. And I’ve seen him collide with another player.

I just knew he was going to put up a fight to stay in the game. That’s how Wyatt is. He doesn’t back down, and he doesn’t give up on his teammates. He was going to get the run whether his ankle agreed or not. It was Wyatt’s way or the highway.

After the game, he was still hobbling a little bit, but it didn’t seem to deter him. The trainer suggested no running or any intense impact activity for the next two weeks, he obviously didn’t know who he was telling that to.

“I’m guessing you’re just going to say fuck it to the trainer’s suggestions?” I ask him, emptying my water.

Wyatt looked at me wildly. “It’s the playoffs…You’d have to take both of my fucking legs to keep me off the field,” he laughs. “C’mon, baby. You already knew the answer to that.”

I sigh, shaking my head slightly. “I know you’re going to stop at nothing, but do you ever think about how it’ll impact your future?”

He shrugs up a shoulder. “I’m focused on what’s going on right now. I don’t start focusing on next season until this one is over. Until I’ve accomplished what I want to in this season.” He moves and stands in front of me. “I’m trying to get some rings on my fingers, baby. World Series, y’know…”

I tilt my chin up. “That would be two rings. More than I have,” I hold my hand up, looking at my fingers, then at him. “Can I wear one of yours?”

The way he smiled softly made my knees feel like Jell-O. “Oh, baby, I have plans to put a different ring on your finger,” he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “That’s a topic for a different day.”

My mouth drops. There’s no way this man just casually said he plans on proposing one day.

He tucks his finger under my chin, closing my mouth. “What? You think we were just going to be boyfriend and girlfriend forever? Lame. I want you taking my last name.”

My cheeks blush, shaking my head. “It’ll be cool to wear a jersey with my last name on it,” I grin at him, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him close to me.

“You and that damn jersey,” he laughs, his hands finding my hips. “You’re wearing one right now…” he says as his hands run up and down my sides. “Remember what I told you?”

I shake my head. “What did you tell me, Wy?”

Wyatt leans down, kissing my neck softly. “It would look way better on the floor…” he whispers before picking me up, my legs instinctively wrapping around his waist as he carries me up the stairs.

“Wy, your ankle, please be careful…” I remind him, but he didn’t seem to care.

“I’ll worry about it later, babe. I have a woman to appreciate right now.” He says as we make our way into his bedroom. Wyatt lays me down in the middle of his bed. “I’m not letting an injury ruin my night, El. I might’ve just won a playoff game, but the real win is being able to come home to you.”

My heart flutters hearing him talk like this. I was way too lucky to be with a man like him.

Wyatt straightens, walking over to his dresser and opens the top drawer, pulling out a box and my heart climbs to my heart. There’s no way he’s about to do what I think he’s going to do…

“Are you?” I ask, looking at the box, then back at him.

“Hell no, I plan on being way more romantic than this,” he chuckles, opening up the small box. A beautiful purple rain drop pendant hung off a chain he held up.

“Did you get that for me?” I smiled at him. Wyatt loved being affectionate, but we were never ones to give gifts to each other.

“I don’t really ever get you gifts, but I saw this the other day and I knew I had to get it.” He says as he slipped the necklace around my neck and clasped it. He fixed the chain and leaned forward, kissing me softly.

I cradle his face in my hands as I give him a couple of kisses. When I pull away, I keep my hands on his face. “Thank you…”

He says nothing, just moves himself so he’s now hovering over me, my back laying down on the mattress. He kisses me again, one of his hands resting near my throat.

My hands move down his back, my nails gently scraping against his flexed muscles.

Wyatt pulls back from my mouth, sitting up to rid himself of his shirt and then pulled mine over my head and tossed it on the floor. “I don’t think I could ever get tired of just staring at your body, Eliana…”

I ran my hands down his chest, stopping right above his sweats. “You’re way too good to me…”
