A beat passes.

“Well, I send my condolences to your family for when you pass away.” I shrug a shoulder, looking out to the pool.

Then, his mouth twitches with amusement, and his cheeks flush a bit. “But I’m definitely not spending an off-day at practice if this is what they would look like.”

I groan, grabbing the towel and throwing it at him. “You’re ridiculous.”

He catches it easily, laughing under his breath. “Will it be like this on game days too?”

And even though I roll my eyes, I can’t help but notice the way that banter felt so easy with him.

This was exactly how everything started the first time. Wyatt simply smiled, and I forgot every good decision that I’d ever made.

“No, I think I’m going to try the Parka option,” I tell him. “See how that looks.” I snap my fingers at him. “Oh! Or maybe the turtleneck option. I do look good in a turtleneck.”

He rolls his eyes. “I still have yet to hear you complain about me looking at you like that, El.” Wyatt set the towel to the side of him. “So, obviously you don’t have an issue with it.”

I glare at him. “I might not be working today, but that doesn’t mean you get to flirt it up with your social media manager. I’m like your boss in a way.”

He lets out a chuckle, shaking his head. “This isn’t a workplace, boss. It’s my house. You’re under my roof. My rules.”

I swallow. “Are you sure about that, shortstop?”

He scoots his chair closer to me. “You always have to have the last word, don’t you? Can’t let me finish without you wanting to fight?”

“It seems like it’s been a while since a woman let you finish, so maybe you just needed me to put you in your place.”

He definitely caught onto that. A devilish grin now painted on his lips before he licked them.

I give him an innocent smile as I tuck my hair behind my ear, take a sip of my water, and fix my sunglasses.

He nods slowly. “Got it…” he stands up. “I’m going to make some lunch. Do you want anything?”

I tap my chin. “Depends. I didn’t realize you were now a chef.”

“Just something simple like a salad or a frozen pizza. I’m no Gordon Ramsay,” he chuckles.

“Are you taking care of your body, Wy?” I ask, shifting the tone into something more serious.

He nods. “Yes. I have to log everything I eat for the team nutritionist.”

“Can I see the log?” I ask, and he shakes his head. “I just might be your social media manager, but if I have to be a life coach too and make sure you’re eating properly, then I will.”

He shakes his head again. “I am eating right. No need.”

“I wasn’t asking. I was more so telling you, but forming it like a question as a formality,” I tell him, following behind him.

I watch as he takes a deep breath, letting out a sigh before his eyes do another glance over my body again. “I can’t take you seriously when you’re standing in front of me in a skimpy bikini.”

“Skimpy?” I look down at what I was wearing. “I have worse.”

He groans quietly. “Put some clothes on before you try to go all life coach on me.”

I shrug. “I have to make sure I have an even tan!”

“Okay, if that’s the explanation that makes you happy.”

“Makes me very happy, thank you!” I call out to him as he walks into the house. “Can’t wait for lunch, by the way.”
