“Yes.”

“For three years.”

“I was there for the shit show, Blair. I know the timeline.”

“So what the fuck is the difference?”

“The difference is that you keep turning something you did into your fucking government name.”

I stared at her. “Maybe this is just what comes with it.”

“No.”

“I made my bed and now I have to lay in it.”

“But I’m not going to sit here and watch my sister decide she deserves to be miserable for the rest of her fucking life because she fell in love with a lying-ass married man and then knowingly participated in something she should’ve walked away from.”

“I didn’t fall into his dick, Klair. I chose it.”

“I know.”

“I chose him over and over.”

“I fucking know.” Her voice rose. “And now you chose yourself.”

I stared at her. “When the hell did you get wise?”

“I’ve always been wise. You were too busy fucking somebody’s husband to notice it”

“Damn. Just kick me when I’m already down.”

“You walked into it.”

I laughed then covered my face. Klair walked over and pulled me against her. My phone buzzed on the counter with another notification. I looked at it over Klair’s shoulder.

HOMEWRECKER.

For some reason, I was pulled to visit my parents one afternoon. As soon as I pulled up, I seen that my dad’s car was gone. That should’ve been my first clue that God had personally arranged the afternoon.

My mama opened the door before I could knock twice.

“You have a key, Blair.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you knocking?”

“Because this is your house.”

She stared at me. “You grew up here.”

I smiled and stepped past her. “And then I moved out. I’m trying to be respectful, mother.”
