“Was it intentional?”
I paused.
“Exactly. It was a drought.”
I rolled my eyes and took a sip.
“Okay. What happened?”
I looked at my glass. “Nash told me why his marriage ended.”
She waited.
“His wife cheated.”
Klair blinked. “Oh.”
“Exactly.”
She took a drink. “That’s unfortunate.”
“That’s all you have?”
“What else am I supposed to have? I wasn’t there.”
“Klair.”
“What?”
“He was cheated on.”
“I heard you.”
“And it really fucked him up.”
“I would imagine so.”
“He talked about how it made him question himself. How he couldn’t understand how someone could supposedly love you and never stop to think about how what they were doing would affect you.”
Klair’s glass paused halfway to her mouth.
I continued.
“He said the worst part wasn’t even necessarily her sleeping with someone else. It was realizing she didn’t have much remorse. She basically expected him to accept it or leave.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Now I see where this foolishness is going.”
“What foolishness?”
She put her glass down. “You’re about to break up with that man.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to.”
