I blinked. “Oh, thank you.”
“You deserved it. Your work is beautiful.”
My stomach twisted. “Thank you. Seriously.”
“I’ve seen some of your projects online.”
Of course she had.
“I keep telling Caleb we need to redo our primary bedroom.”
Caleb coughed and Klair looked at him. I could practically hear the demonic gears turning in her head.
Ravenna laughed. “You okay, babe?”
Babe.
“Yeah.”
Caleb cleared his throat. “Champagne went down wrong.”
Klair smiled. “Gotta be careful swallowing the wrong shit.”
I turned my head and Ravenna laughed. “I like her.”
“Thank you,” Klair said. “I’m the fun sister.”
Ravenna looked between us. “You two look so much alike.”
“Unfortunately,” Klair said.
“Don’t listen to her.”
“I love it.”
My chest hurt because she was nice. Why the fuck did she have to be nice? It would’ve been easier if she was mean.
Instead, Ravenna stood there complimenting my dress and laughing at Klair while her husband looked like he was five minutes from cardiac arrest.
Ravenna looked at my award. “You have somewhere special you’re putting it?”
“My office.”
“Definitely.”
She smiled. “Caleb puts everything in his man cave.”
My smile froze. Man cave.
“At home?” Klair asked before I could stop her.
Ravenna nodded. “Yes. That’s basically his second residence.”
She laughed. “He comes home, cooks dinner, and disappears in there for hours.”
My ears rang. I looked at Caleb, but he wouldn’t look at me. Klair did. Oh, she fucking looked at me. Her entire face said Bitch.
I stared at Ravenna.
