I stared at him. “What about them?”
He hesitated. “I was going to talk to you about that.”
My stomach tightened. “Talk to me about what?”
He exhaled. “Ravenna is coming.”
I blinked. “To the awards?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”
I waited for him to continue, but he didn’t. I understood exactly what he was saying.
My smile disappeared. “As your date?”
“Plus-one.”
I laughed, but there wasn’t anything funny. “What’s the difference?”
“Blair.”
“I’m asking.”
He put his glass down. “We’re still legally married.”
There went that word.
“And?”
“And this is a business event.”
“So?”
“My investors and partners will be there. People I’ve worked with for years who know Ravenna.”
I stared at him. “So you’re taking your wife.”
“For appearances.”
“Appearances.”
“Yes.”
I looked down at my ring. “And you’re going to walk in there together?”
“I don’t know how we’re walking in, Blair.”
He moved closer. “Baby.”
I hated when he babied me before saying some shit I didn’t want to hear.
“Don’t.”
“Listen.”
“I am.”
