Trick kisses the top of my head and pulls me tighter against him, “You’re right, but I’m going to miss him.”
“We all are, come on. Let’s head back in, it’s too damn cold out here,” I reply.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Ever
I’ve been primped and primed. I have more makeup on than I have had on for a long time, my hair has been curled and pinned, and I have been helping to reassure Pete that everything is going to be fine for the last hour.
Everyone reacted to Pete’s news in the expected way, with lots of tears and lots of hugging, but everyone agreed that it was definitely the right thing to do.
Elijah was absolutely over the moon, and the other guys were really happy to be having Pete join the team too. The fact that the guys were looking forward to having Pete join their team is a sign that this is the right thing to do.
Not that there was really any doubt.
It’s going to take a lot of getting used to.
I’m used to having him down the road and being able to call on him whenever I want to talk to him. I’m used to him walking through the door at random times, and I’m going to seriously miss our movie nights.
I’m going to miss him.
It feels so final.
I know that it only feels that way because he’s heading off on a job that could take months, possibly over a year, and the chances of us being able to see them all in that time are very slim. I also know that as soon as they’re back, Trick will coordinate the jobs, and it won’t feel like such a big thing.
There’s a big part of me that wishes it was the other way around though.
Hopefully, he will be able to call us reasonably regularly.
Pete was obviously also our go-to for everything tech, and while he made sure to tell us last night, when he told everyone what the plan was, that he will be leaving us with a lot of tech and instructions on how to use it all, it’s going to be weird not having him to help us do things.
We have all been trained in the basics like looping cameras and things like that, and Jensen is the best at that sort of thing, so he’s going to take over the simpler things. The more complicated stuff we’re going to have to go to someone else for, and I’m not sure I like that.
I would offer to get trained up properly and do it myself, but I am notoriously bad with all things that involve tech, so it’s probably not the best idea. Fortunately, Wilder is exceptionally good with this sort of thing, and while he won’t be able to help us out all the time since he has his own jobs, he has offered to help us out when he can.
Thank fuck.
I trust Wilder. I don’t necessarily trust a random tech guy at the organization, especially since we don’t always need tech stuff for organization things.
“How long left?” Pete asks nervously, his leg bouncing up and down.
“We should start getting ready to go now,” I tell him. “Breathe, you’ve got this, you’re marrying the love of your life.”
He nods, “I know. I didn’t think I would be this nervous, but then again, I thought there would be something that went wrong, and nothing has gone wrong, so what the fuck do I know?”
I nod in agreement and decide to wait until after the wedding to tell him that actually there was a problem with some of the flowers, so his dads were busy finding replacements in the early hours of the morning, that some of the food didn’t arrive because the truck had broken down, so Rafe, Ace, Lucien, and Zee all went to go and find it, bring back the food, and fixed the truck while they were at it, and that we had a brief moment of panic where the rings had been misplaced. Oh, and someone who was definitely not invited from his dad's side turned up, and it’s only thanks to all of the extra security that Mr. R brought with him that they left.
I shouldn’t have been surprised that Mr. R brought in so much extra security. There are a lot of agents in attendance, as well as people like D, all of whom have made enemies throughout their lives. It just makes sense to bring extra security just in case.
Having said that, you would have to have a death wish to attack this wedding. The majority of people in attendance would take you out before you even finished your sentence, and not even blink.
All of the issues that have happened can wait. Pete and Elijah don’t need to know about them now or ever actually.
It was all taken care of, everything is sorted, and now it’s time for them to get married.
“Ready?” Lyric asks with a proud smile.
“Absolutely,” Pete smiles. “Alright, group hug, you four!”
