It would be harder to get to him. But that wasn’t exactly something he’d share with her in the presence of police.

“You don’t have to decide now,” Jekyll said, and Murdoch narrowed his gaze.

“If it’s okay, I want to think about it.”

“Well” —Murdoch snorted and shook his head— “then there’s nothing left. You all can go.”

Jekyll hooked his arm around Imogene’s shoulder and looked over at Logan as they passed. I’m coming for you.

“Imogene?”

She stopped and looked back.

“We’re due for lunch, yeah? Call me tomorrow.”

She smiled. “Okay.”

Jekyll drew in a breath. He knew exactly what that lunch would entail. But he’d deal with it later. For now, he just wanted to get her out of here.

Chapter Twenty-One

Imogene drove her car back to the apartment, but it felt very much like a motorcade with all the motorcycles following her. When she pulled into the lot, all the bikes lined up beside her. By the time she opened the door, Jekyll was waiting for her. He didn’t say a word as they walked into the building and went up the elevator.

This was bad, and the blame rested solely on her. Jekyll had warned her about this exact scenario that had become her reality. She expected his anger, but his silence was making her anxious.

She wasn’t exactly sure why all the members were coming upstairs. Of course, she didn’t have to wait long to find out. Half-way down the hallway, a door flew open, and Inez was standing with her hands on her hips. Her hand shot out, pointing to her apartment.

“Get your ass inside right now.”

Uh oh, is she talking to me?

Cue snorted and passed them when Imogene slowed her steps. He glanced back, smiling. “We were here when Gent got the call. She heard everything on speakerphone.”

“She looks really mad,” she mumbled, and Jekyll’s hand tightened over her back.

“She’s fucking pissed, and so am I.”

She glanced up. “I’m sorry. I know…”

His gaze darkened, and he shook his head.

She immediately clamped her lips.

“We ain’t doing this right now.” He lifted his chin toward Inez’s apartment. “First, you gotta deal with her.”

I don’t know what’s worse.

She walked down the small hall and noticed Gent and a few other members. She expected them to be there. What she didn’t expect was the familiar welcoming face seated in the corner of the room. What was he doing here?

“Well, this is a surprise.” The older man smiled. “Hello, Imogene.”

She lifted her hand in a short wave. “Hi, Sal.”

“What the fuck?” She couldn’t be sure who’d said it, but there was no missing the shock in his tone.

Imogene looked over at Jekyll, who darted his gaze between her and Sal. When she peered around the room all the members shared the same puzzled stare. Inez was more vocal.

“How the hell does she know everybody?” she shouted.
