“I’m a little chilly, but that’s mostly from the dish water.” He crosses the space between us, picks me up, takes a seat on the couch, and faces me toward him.
My eyes widen, and I wrap the comforter around his shoulders. It makes a perfect little tent between us, but my face is still cold, so I bury my nose in his pec.
“Wow, you are freezing.” He chuckles as I suck down deep hits of his citrus and pine scent. “I would suggest that we watch a movie on one of our phones, but we should probably conserve their batteries.”
“I have a charger in my car,” I admit. “But I’m not sure it’s safe to run the vehicle if the snow is this high.”
“It can be if you dig out the exhaust pipe,” he says, running his hand up and down my back over the blanket. “But we’d better save that for a last-resort option.”
“Agreed.”
“I guess that means we’ll just have to talk to pass the time.”
I smile against his shirt.
That sounds heavenly to me.
As long as I get to stay close to him, I’ll be happy.

Lawson is great company.
As the day passes, I learn a little about his time in the military and his relationship with his brother, Luka. He tells me about meeting Bryant and how seamless it was to build their pack.
I share a little about my relationship with Tommy, but I don’t get in too deep with specifics, mostly because it’s embarrassing to admit how poorly he treated me.
Something inside me says Lawson gets it without me having to spell out all the details.
It’s a very lazy day without power, and I enjoy it more than I thought possible.
I might be the most cliché omega in existence, but I love having a potent alpha completely focused on me.
And damn, Lawson is attentive.
He owes me nothing.
He still ensures I’m fed, hydrated, and warm.
By the time evening rolls around, there’s nothing to do but snuggle in bed together.
Echo curls up on the bottom of the mattress, and I fall asleep completely confined in Lawson’s warmth and delicious citrus and pine scent.

Beeping wakes me up in the middle of the night. The whooshing of the heat turning on makes me frown. Carefully disengaging from under Lawson’s arm, I gather the extra blankets and toss them on the bottom of the bed by my feet next to Echo.
“The power is back...” Lawson sits up and swipes his hand over his face. “I can head out to the couch.”
“No, please don’t,” I say, settling back onto the mattress. “It might go out again, and even if it doesn’t, I can’t stand the idea of you having to sleep on the couch when we know we both fit in the bed.”
“All right, sweetheart. You’ve convinced me,” he says, settling back onto the bed. “Come on. Snuggle up. I’ll keep you warm until the heat catches up.”
No one in my entire life has ever given in to me the way he does.
Dammit.
I almost don’t want the storm to end.
